20 weeks and felt no movement

Hello

I will be 20 weeks tomorrow with my first pregnancy. (20 week scan on Monday) but I haven't felt any movement yet.
I'm just getting very worried as I'm in a group with similar due dates and people are all commenting on feeling movement.
I also suffered a miscarriage previously so I am aware I maybe over anxious but just worried now.

Any thoughts please?

Thank you very much

I didn't feel movement with my first until the day after my 20 week scan. I wouldn't think you've long to wait. Also you may not have noticed, it can just be a tiny pop or flutter at first which is easy to miss if you're not sitting still. I first noticed sat on the sofa, no tv on, no one else about.

I have an anterior placenta with my second and only really feel movement around my bladder. Currently nearly 22 weeks and am starting to feel a little more, but not loads.

If you're worried you should contact your midwife. They can do extra checks, especially if you have had a previous miscarriage.

With my first I felt movement from 17w but currently expecting my second and didn't feel movement until 23w, very nerve wracking but I felt so reassured by 20w scan and seeing baby move loads on the screen even though I couldn't feel it.

Have you had your 20w scan yet?

First movement feels a bit like little flutters or gently popping popcorn - easy to miss!

If you get to 24w and still haven't felt movement - contact your MW.

I had a MC before having my first DC and 2 other MC before this pregnancy. Contrary to pp suggestion - no extra checks with history of MC in my experience, even when I asked! The anxiety does get easier with time but never really goes.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy journey!

Thank you for the reassurance
My 20 week scan is on Monday 27th March
I had my 16 week check up and baby's heart beat was heard so maybe I just need to hang on a little longer.
I have tried lying on my side with no sound, no distractions but still can't seem to feel anything. Fingers crossed it comes soon.
Thank you again

I felt nothing until 23/24 weeks and had an anterior placenta 😊 they confirmed my placenta was anterior when I asked at my 20 week scan, so I definitely relaxed more then, but I had self-diagnosed myself with it before then 😂

Borgonzola · 23/03/2023 08:11

I didn't feel anything until around 22 weeks! First baby and anterior placenta.

Then she never stopped moving Smile

Blue2020 · 23/03/2023 08:32

I only felt a few brief bubble sensation by 19-20weeks). I could confuse the brief bubble with gas too, it was just in an odd place compared to normal gas.

I have a low anterior placenta confirmed at 20wk scan and the nudges/soft kicks/obvious baby movements didn’t start until 22+weeks.

Notjustamumma · 23/03/2023 09:25

I didn’t feel my first until around 23 weeks due to the position of the placenta. I have also suffered a miscarriage and so I understand the anxiety no matter what anyone says! Maybe your midwife will see you for an extra visit with the Doppler so you can hear baby? Otherwise your 20 week scan is so close and will reassure you xxx

Sameer here, This is my second pregnancy and I m 18 weeks and no movements yet. I m bit worried as I read you feel sooner in second pregnancy

Shinea · 24/03/2023 06:40

Same* here that's typo :D

FirstTimeTryer93 · 24/03/2023 07:58

I get it, I was in your position, but I really wouldn't worry because you will feel them tiny kicks soon. I had no movement until 22 weeks 5 days, and here I am currently feeding my little one who was just born on mother's day 🥰 xxx

xogossipgirlxo · 24/03/2023 10:32

I haven't felt any movements until 22 weeks due to anterior placenta. don't worry x

tax19 · 24/03/2023 16:44

@FirstTimeTryer93 thank you I needed to read this! ♥️ so lovely to hear

I didn't feel much with my second due to placenta position and the way she was lying. Incidentally, this also made it difficult for midwife to find her heartbeat with doppler. (She could hear the movements on the doppler though!)

Shes 10years old now, and still likes to give me grey hairs!

LG93 · 24/03/2023 16:57

I didn't feel my 2nd until after my 20 week scan, can't remember when exactly but remember the sonographer saying 'can you really not feel that?!' while little one did flips on the scan!

Klex · 24/03/2023 17:00

I had an anterior placenta with my first.
Quite often I could see movement but not feel it.

Once I was having a scan due to concern about movement and the ultrasound showed him kicking away but I genuinely couldn't feel a thing.

Sallyh87 · 24/03/2023 17:34

My first I felt no movement until 21.5 weeks. I remember going for a scan around 20 weeks and seeing her aim a kick at my tummy and I felt nothing! All was fine 😀

tax19 · 27/03/2023 19:29

So I had my 20 week scan today and I have an exterior placenta which would explain why I haven't felt any movement yet. Excited to feel it hopefully soon! Xx

I somewhere felt movements around 18 weeks and it's been a week after and no movements yet!!
This is my second baby and I m not sure if I m so busy to sit idle and feel it or am I really not feeling a thing!!

Worried 😟
