Bleeding after 12 week scan

Hi, I'm currently 12 weeks 2 days and for the last 4 days I've had some mild cramps in my lower back/pelvis area but no bleeding. I emailed my midwife and they said it's completely normal growing pains at this time and as long as there's no bleeding it's fine.
She said I can take paracetamol if needed. Well yesterday the pain was a little stronger so I took paracetamol and that eased it.
I had my 12 week scan this afternoon and all was fine with the baby. Strong heartbeat, measuring the right size and move about etc. I mentioned the pain and was told again it was normal, especially because I have large fibroids which will intensify the growing pains.
Since coming home from the scan, I've just gone to the toilet and there was bright red when I wiped. The pain seems to have eased more but now I'm concerned about what I've just seen.
I'm not in severe pain or heavy bleeding so I will of course speak to my midwife for advice in the morning but just wondered if anyone has experienced anything like this after a scan? I've heard a few people say they have experienced bleed right after an abdominal scan?

Have you got an early pregnancy unit at your hospital? Could be worth calling them to speak to someone.

@strawberry2017 thanks for the reply. I do, I'll definitely give them a call first thing when they open at 8 and see what they suggest

How did you get on? I hope everything's ok? X

@strawberry2017 thanks a lot for checking in. I went to my EPU and they said they were unable to scan me again that day but they did an internal check of my cervix and said it was still closed which is a good sign. They said based on how strong the heartbeat was on the scan yesterday, they thought it was very unlikely that I'm miscarrying and perhaps the bleeding is due to my large fibroids but they could be sure. It gave me a little more reassurance but they just said keep monitoring it and call them if it gets any worse, so fingers crossed everything stays ok

How did you get on @MrsOptimism? I had my 12 week scan yesterday but I’ve had some unusual pains the past couple of days and it’s freaking me out. Kind of like period pains? I’ve not had any bleeding.

MrsOptimism · 07/06/2023 18:19

Hi @99SR, in the end the pain eased after a day or two and the bleeding stopped within 24 hours so it wasn't a problem. In the end I had to have a tfmr at 16 weeks as our baby girl had T21 but that was completely unrelated to the pain after the scan so try not to worry and a good luck with the rest of your pregnancy 😊
