Steroid injection

So I'm 33 weeks and have an emergency stitch. I started to have contractions for a full 24hrs but thankfully no baby. The first doctor decided that steroid was the way just in case she does comes early. The second doctor thought it was the result of irritated bowls. Anyway a bit late given that we had already started the steroid.

I have two questions:

  1. after the injections baby has been moving less and I've read that it can happen up ro 48hrs after injections. Anyone experienced this?

  2. anyone got steroids injection and baby went to term? If so have you noticed any side effects? New studies show there are mental and behavioural side effects but the studies are small. That's what the doctor said. Would appreciate input.

Thanks

Any reduced movements you should get checked out, personally I didn't experience this after either steroid.

My baby went to 38 weeks and I haven't noticed any issues - in fact I wasn't actually told this was possible.

@posygir thank you for responding. Yes, I will definitely have the movements checked.

I'm not sure when you had your baby but this is a recent thing apparently, it was in the patient leaflet too. We thought the benefits definitely outweigh the risks. Also our trust had a threshold of 34 weeks amd we were so close to not being offered it. They assured us it's generally safe it's just these new studies that have made the hospitals less trigger happy with giving out steroids.

For us it's a bit anxiety driven given that the two doctors had different opinions and during the internal examination they said my cervix was fine and not dilating. Obviously you can never know with these situations but I feel like maybe we should had waited a little longer before we gave the steroids

I had two steroid injections at 33 weeks when my waters broke. My daughter was born at 34 weeks.

Absolutely no mental or behavioural issues. To be honest the fear of breathing issues was the only thing I could think about.

Good luck!

Not exactly what you're asking... My twins had to be delivered at 34 weeks, so I had 2 doses of steroid injection in the previous 48 hours.

They're 2 now. No apparent unusual behaviour/development. One does bite, but only his brother 🙄. He has slightly weak lungs and is prone to illness but nothing that seems likely to be attributed to steroids. .

My first - injections at 30 weeks baby born at 37 weeks she’s 3 now, no developmental issues but an absolute threenager all of a sudden 😂

My second - injections at 36 weeks baby born at 36 weeks. Yes I had reduced movements, I googled it too and was happy with knowing it was the steroid because she would still move when prompted (cold drink, sugar etc) I don’t think they tell you this as a side effect because they always want you to be checked so do go get checked if you’re worried xx

Had steroid injections at 24 weeks with DD1, she's a healthy 7 year old. Had them at 31 weeks with DD2, she's only six months so can't answer for her, but so far hitting all of her milestones

How are things?

I had the steroid injection at 34 weeks, my baby was born at 34 weeks, 16 hours after the first jab and 4 hours after the second.

I've since read online about developmental issues later on.

But from what I can see it's only a small chance if the pregnancy then makes it to term, am I right?

When you had the steroid injection at 24 weeks when did you have your baby please. I've just had the injection at 24 weeks but chances of carrying to full term is very high from all observations and now I'm worried I took the steroid due to studies found.

I had her at 40+5, was signed off at 31 weeks and put on bed rest, 1-2cm dilated at 37 weeks and she still stayed put :)
