Has anyone had low ferratin and had an infusion?

I am 36 weeks on Friday, and been feeling beyond rotten for weeks.
Last Friday at my consultant app she decided to do a full blood count, however today triage called me and said they wanted to do folate and ferratin so I went in for another blood test.

ive just received a phonecall asking me to come in for an iron transfusion tomorrow as my ferratin level is 5?! On googling it seems very very low ? I am booked in for a c section at 37+4 so I am worried if this doesn’t kick in soon I will recover poorly and continue to feel horrendous !

has anyone had such a low level and it improve quickly ?

Not quite the same but i lost a lot blood in my delivery and had an iron infusion when my little one was 2 days old to help me recover.
There's not really any alternative that will work more quickly other than a blood transfusion which is more risky so sounds like iron infusion is your best bet.
Could you ask to delay the section by a few days?

Yes I'v had an infusion that late, it did work - they will check after the section and if they feel it hasn't improved enough they'll give you another. Mine was so low they offered a blood transfusion but I declined.

In subsequent pregnancies they've given me 1 weeks in advance then 1 the day before.
