Tips to meet other expecting mums

Hi all, does anyone know of any free apps or any ways to meet other expecting or new mums in your area? I've tried FB with no luck, I've tried posting on netmjms with no luck, I've looked at the Peanut app but you have to pay. Is there any way I can find others to connect with in my area?! I'm a FTM due in April and I'm really worried about being isolated and not having any connections close by.

I met most of my initial “mum friends” through our antenatal classes, and have made more friends through groups since DD was born.

Ask your midwife about antenatal classes, or maybe look up some local baby groups you could attend once baby is here

Thanks ladies, the only suggestions the midwife had for antenatal classes were private and they cost too much money unfortunately!

Ah that’s a shame. In that case I’d look at free groups you can join once baby is here. Some of the ones near us are open to expectant mums as well as those that have had a baby. Facebook would probably be your best bet for working out what’s available near you.

I've put my name down to join a local pregnancy yoga class to hopefully meet some people, as well as for the benefits of the class. My midwife told me antenatal classes are online now in my area and have been since the pandemic, which I feel such a massive shame especially as lots of people have met other expectant mums this way and surely this must be good for the wellbeing of mums.
If you are part of a local FB group, you could put your own post out and ask if anyone wants to team up in an online group and organise meets.
Good luck to you. Hopefully the new baby groups will help too.

@VirgoPeanutPending I totally agree, mine said the same. No classes since the pandemic, just online stuff. It also seems like everything on offer is really expensive which is unfair when you're having to buy baby things/on reduced maternity pay! My area isn't the most busy area either so I think that's making it harder to find people

I use the peanut app and don't pay.... I think you have to pay if you want to use all the tools. But I've met a few mums on there fine.

Anonymous9122 · 15/03/2023 07:31

@sjmco oh really? I'd set up a profile and then tried to wave at a few people and it then said I had to pay to do anything else

@Anonymous9122 that's strange... I've never paid for it... there are some stuff I can't do as it tells me to upgrade. but I've messaged fine with other mums.
