I think I am having a miscarriage

I am six weeks and three days with my first pregnancy, and have started bleeding red blood when I wipe after a wee. I had stomach cramps every day during this whole pregnancy but the doctor said it was normal and would just be my uterus stretching but now I have this when I wipe :(. It started four hours ago and no blood touches the pad it is only when I wipe, and when I wee some blood goes into the toilet like one clot.

Ever since I have gotten this blood when I wipe I don't have any stomach cramps any more etc so I guess I don't feel pregnant any more :(.

Has anyone else had bleeding like this and still had a successful pregnancy? I will see if I can go to the hospital later today. I have read when it is this early most places just send you home as they say there is nothing they can do.

There’s no need to go to the hospital unless the bleeding becomes extremely heavy and you’re worried about blood loss. I miscarried at 10 weeks and although there was a lot of bleeding, I was in contact with the midwives and managed it at home. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Sometimes bleeding can be normal in early pregnancy, but you should know if it develops into a miscarriage. Sending you love and strength xx

Hi Nik84, thank you for your message. I am so sorry you have had a miscarriage. Did your miscarriage start off with heaps of bleeding or did it take a while for you to start having a miscarriage? Mine is only when I wipe. The waiting game is agony thinking is it still alive or not :(. Do hospitals give you a scan if you are bleeding to see if the baby is ok, or just send you home to wait it out?

I have had 3 miscarriages and they have all started differently unfortunately.
If you try to speak with your doctor about being referred to the EPU (Early Pregnancy Unit) at your local hospital, they may be able to do an early scan.
Alternatively, you could look at booking and paying for a private scan to get some answers

Stickly · 11/03/2023 20:56

I had this in first and second trimester. Scan with EPU first trimester and then swabs taken second time around. Turned out to be just one of those things. Hope everything turns out well for you.

@sassyserenity I has quite a lot of on and off bleeding in the first trimester and as it turned out it was due to hematoma. You should try and get a scan either privately or on nhs. There is no need to sit and worry wondering what’s happening, at 6 weeks there should be a heartbeat if things are progressing ok so at least you will know either way. I was also prescribed progesterone to support the pregnancy. Good luck!

Nik84 · 11/03/2023 21:51

@sassyserenity it started off only when I wiped but the next day it was very heavy and I was obviously miscarrying, so it did progress quickly. Call the EPAU or get referred by your GP as they may offer you a scan. They don’t always scan from A&E and you could be there for hours waiting 😔

Hi I went for a scan. The baby is measuring 5 weeks 4 days instead of 6 weeks 3 days but it has a heartbeat. They said if I have any more bleeding to go straight to hospital but atm it is still a viable pregnancy. My HCG levels have gone up thousands since my last blood test ten days ago :).

I'm pleased to hear that, OP. I had a significant bleed at about 6w with my first pregnancy, and was convinced I was miscarrying. He's now 3, climbing on my legs and dropping cheerios all over the floor, so there is hope yet. (I was also told he was measuring small that day. It's such an imprecise science.) Best of luck xx

Nik84 · 12/03/2023 09:05

@sassyserenity such good news ☺️xx

Hi, I have been having light brown blood off and on since the internal ultrasound (they said bleeding after the internal ultrasound would be normal)... But it has been 4 days since and when I wiped this morning I had this 😥. Has anyone else had this days after an internal ultrasound? I'm sorry it's so gross. I don't really want to get another internal ultrasound as I got lots of brown blood after my last one four days ago, but maybe I will need another ultrasound? Or did anyone have this and their pregnancy was fine?

I think I am having a miscarriage

I had a hematoma and it caused red and brown intermittent bleeding/spotting. Sometimes they are small and doctors don’t see them on a scan unless they’re really looking for it. It could be that though.

sassyserenity · 16/03/2023 01:20

Thank you HJA87, hopefully that is it. I rang the hospital and they said it's normal so far. How long did your hematoma last for? Did you just stop bleeding randomly one day? It's more heavy when I wake up in the morning and wipe than during the day. Was yours the same?

@sassyserenity I'm sorry you're going through this. I don't have answers for you, I'm experiencing the exact same thing right now.
I had a private scan on Sunday (no bleeding before this) and all was fine, saw the heartbeat.
I started bleeding lightly when I wiped that evening but I put it down to the internal scan aggravating the cervix which I know can happen and I've had before.
I got worried yesterday because it started having small lumps like what you've had, and light cramping. I called the hospital and they've booked me in for another scan on Saturday morning.
Feel like I'm in total limbo now, been bleeding a reasonable amount for 4 days now but still no pain and the bleeding isn't excessive. Saturday feels very far away and I've convinced myself it will get worse before then.
I really hope everything is OK for you, please keep us posted. I hate that someone else is going through this but it's also sort of reassuring to find this thread.

HJA87 · 16/03/2023 13:54

@sassyserenity yes it also seemed worse for me in the mornings. I started spotting around week 5/6 and that continued pretty much every day until week 10/11. Finally at 12 weeks scan the my couldnt see the hematoma so it was likely absorbed. I haven’t had any bleeding since touch wood. Im only 18 weeks so hoping it wont come back. During those weeks I was bleeding, I had some days where it was almost gushing out followed by minimal brown discharge. Didnt have it in my first pregnancy so it all felt very scary. Fortunately, research shows that hematoma only raise the risk of miscarriage slightly. I was signed off work for 2 months and basically on bed rest for the majority of it per my doctor’s advice.

can any one please advise me, I was due in af Friday, af did not come took a clear blue pregnancy test yesterday and today and it says I’m 1-2 weeks pregnant on the digital test. I have had cramping and brown spotting but today it’s small drops of blood just when I wee and wipe. Is this normal as I read it could be implantation? Feel really sick as well on and off.
