Not allowed to drive after c section

Hi all, I had a c section elective 3 weeks ago. Have been very lucky to have recovered brilliantly. No pain in my tummy and able to move about as usual just not lifting heavy things. My car insurance wants me to check with GP that I’m fit to drive, my midwife has said I am good to drive when I can do an emergency stop which I feel able to now as I’m not in any pain. However the GP says 6 weeks. Seems ridiculous that I now can’t drive for another 3 weeks. Has anyone had this issue before? AIBU?

6 weeks is the standard time so they probably just stick with that

Good to hear your recovery has been smooth.

6 weeks before driving is the standard time after sections. Maybe they’re worried if they recommend too soon and something happens then it’s partly their fault for signing off sooner.

I started driving again after 3 weeks. I rang the GP and she asked if I could jump down 2 steps without pain 😂 I said ‘probably but I won’t now because I’m holding the baby!’

I think its so they can err on the safe side because you have a check at 6 weeks… if you can be seen in person(!)

There’s still so much internal healing going on at 3 weeks. My GP said the same re if you feel you can do an emergency stop then you are probably ok but I waited until 6 weeks as I was still not confident that if I had to do a sudden emergency stop that I wouldn’t pull something in the process
