Can my employer change my maternity pay deal without informing me??

Could any legal eagles out there advise me??

With DS in 2006 I got half salary for 6 months as per the maternity deal in my permenant post contract.

Last month (just after I informed my employer I was pg), a tiny "announcement" was put on the staff intranet saying all female employees would henceforth get SMP.

However, I have had no official or individual notification of this change and some colleagues are suggesting that they can't do this without properly re- negotiating my conditions of employment.

Is this true??

Many thanks for any advice

I really hope they can't do this to you - how rotten of them to even try! If you don't get any answers here try reposting in 'employment issues'

My maternity pay changed in between dd2 and dd3 and we had no notification...basiclally to cover the 9 month pay they just changed how much they had given us over the 6 months to now make it cover it the 9 months.

Hi Basilbrush... I don't know if that's allowed or not (it shouldn't be, it's a disgraceful way to treat their staff!), maybe you could post something on the RollonFriday's forum asking for advice?

RollonFriday is a site for people working in law, link below. Sometimes there are lovely helpful lawyers on there (I've had help from them in the past over my brother in law's redundancy issues).

Good luck with your pregnancy
