My partner and I have recently conceived and are confused as to which of our local hospitals to choose. Has anyone got any recent experience with these hospitals and any recommendations or suggestions?

Chase Farm and Barnet are both part of the Royal Free NHS Trust. Chase Farm no longer has a maternity unit there so whilst depending on where you live, you may have some antenatal care there, your choices for birth would be home, Edgware Birth Centre, Barnet or the Royal Free. Hope that helps!

I chose Barnet because they have the best CQC rating for maternity compared to North Mid. If you choose Barnet, the midwife appointments will be at Chase Farm, I’ve found them to be very good there. Congratulations!!

I'm in my first trimester and recently contacted my GP, who mentioned that my GP can’t do anything and that I need to self-refer to a hospital. Is that correct? I'm torn between North Mid and Barnet hospitals, as I've heard Chase Farm no longer has a maternity ward. Does anyone have experience with either hospital recently? I've heard mixed reviews about North Mid, and I'm wondering if partners can stay and sleep in the ward during labor at either hospital.

Hello, I can see you posted this in March and was wondering how you are still getting on at Barnet hospital? Did you self-refer yourself to Barnet hospital and was then told check ups would be at Chase Farm upon your first midwife appointment. I feel so alienated as to how it all works being my first pregnancy and within my first trimester where I haven’t reached the stage to tell people to then be able to get advice and hear experiences.

Hi @Parenting92, no worries, it’s so normal to feel that way! I had my baby boy on the 11th of May at Barnet and can’t fault them, the midwives there are all amazing. Your partner can stay and sleep there with you, only in a chair though! However it helps that they can be there 24 hours with you. Yes, you self refer online to Barnet and then they’ll see you for all your appointments at Chase Farm, which is also great. Very clean and again the midwives are lovely. You do end up being seen late for routine appointments but I guess that’s unavoidable. Congrats!
