Post nasal drip frustration!

Hello!
Looking for any insight on dealing with post nasal drip while pregnant after it just woke me up via choking method and I've spent last half hour coughing and clearing to point of being sick...

I only recently found out its called post nasal drip. I had a terrible cough/cold in January just after I found out pregnant and it's been bothering me ever since. Going through boxes of tissues still.
Pre-pregnancy I just referred to it as 'feeling congested'. I used to go running which is when it bothered me most so I'd simply cut down on dairy, and that seemed to help.

BUT everything has changed, especially my diet and activity. I'm 15wks, exhausted and can hardly walk the length of myself nevermind run now.
I have fruit n fibre cereal to try keep my guts in order (not having much fun in that dept either) and cereal really settles my stomach.
I'm being encouraged to have dairy now as part of a joyful healthy pregnancy diet...

So is there a way around without giving up dairy??
I've googled certirizine is safe for pregnancy wondering if I should try that...?
Thanks

I used to have to sleep slighted propped up in my past pregnancy which helped a bit. But mainly just one of those things I had until baby was born

Thanks @Twoinapod yes I actually still do that since I had that bad cough.

@Twoinapod I never thought of it as an actual pregnancy symptom- just finding more about it in relation to hormones... thanks

I had this really badly in my first pregnancy.

I managed to sort it with a nasal saline rinse. Using a neti pot in the morning and before bed, and then I kept the Boots Saline Nasal Spray in my bag for if I needed it.

Really worked and also has other benefits like helping you not get ill, so good all round!

I've been feeling way more congested than usual in 2nd trimester - plus extra nose bleeds. Not fun and such a random symptom!

I've been using a salt-based nasal spray which has helped. esp spraying before I go to bed, then putting on some vicks vapour rub to help sleep. Hope it helps you!

Morning @breakfastbagel @Alpacabag22
Thanks so much for your replies:)
Yes there's so many 'delightful' new features to experience that no one really tells you!
I'll def look into the nasal rinse thanks both!

Hi @Sœtr, hope you’re ok! I know this post was last year now but wondered how you got on? Did the post nasal drip improve? I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant and have been suffering with this for 2 months now. It’s mentally and physically draining: it causes me to be sick even though my pregnancy sickness has gone. I just have constant phlegm and desperate to hear it gets better! Any tips would be appreciated. Thank you so much

Hello
Thanks for messaging, gosh I'd forgotten all about this! How strange to read back on it.
Congratulations on being pregnant:)
I hope you're feeling ok apart from the post nasal drip thing!

I eventually got saline spray, it helped a wee bit but it was a phase really that just passed. I went on to complain about various other aspects of pregnancy!😂
I remember having to get through an online final presentation for uni - was so exhausted from the breathlessness thought I'd pass out 😂
I think air purifiers and humidifiers are also good things to have on.
We now have a huge dyson one in our room running day/night as we moved into new house while still renovating with our baby boy. I haven't caught any colds or bugs since those first awful colds during 1st/2nd trimester! I think it may have helped.

Best of luck with everything
Take care x
