OVERDUE - 1st child - Membrane Sweep

Good morning,
Am waiting for my midwife to arrive to do a membrane sweep today...am wondering if any other first timers or women who have had a membrane sweep with their first child found this helped the first go round. Am desperate to get on with the show [am a 8 days late but want to avoid all induction sort of stuff]!

Have a glass of wine or take paracetamol NOW. It farking hurts.

It may help, kif your cervix already reasonably ripe. If not, it prob wont.

Good luck anyway - it may start you off!

Good luck! I've got one tomorrow and am terrified.

Thanks for the advice...I am hoping that I am ripe...at 41 weeks I bl**dy should be - LOL! Off for paracetamol!

I had two sweeps with my first - didn't hurt at all. Mildly uncomfortable was all. Obviously, first one didn't help, but second one (4 days later) got everything going.
Good luck

I had 2 sweeps both pregnancies and didn't hurt, but didn't do anything either. I know how frustrating it is waiting for your baby to arrive. Try to rest though as much as possible, as those last few days really took it out of me - I felt like such a (grumpy) whale! Ooooh, not long now!!

P.S. Was induced both times, and yes it was sore, but WELL worth it. Don;t worry too much about it. once the baby is here, it doesn't matter how they got there in the end

DarrensMarjie · 11/02/2008 11:04

Here is hoping that the baby will fancy coming out of the spa once the sweep has happened!!!

Grumpy is not the word for what I am - I have insomnia something feirce and have never felt so out of control on the hormone front in my life! Poor husband is living with a lunatic shaped like a Christmas pudding!

I am overdue (now 9 days) and after reading various blogs etc..regarding the sweep I was terrified and got myself in a state. I had mine Friday and it was absolutely fine, it didn't hurt at all, no worse than having a smear test..I was a tiny bit sore after and unfortunately didn't work but I just wanted to say everyone is different and wish people wouldn't write on these sites how painful their experience was as everyone is different!!
The way I see it is soon your baby will be here, yes its very hard waiting & i'm one of those at the moment..I am booked in for an induction later this week and would of course prefer it if baby comes naturally but things don't always go to plan & I'm just looking forward to seeing my baby now..
If I've helped at least one person feel more reassured on here then I'll be happy...

Hi All overdue mammas

This is my third baby and I'm going for the whole hog 1st premature (35 weeks) 2nd Due Date and currently 5 days over... I am desperate for another water birth and hear this won't be allowed if I am induced so have been trying all the natural methods and so far nothing I am due a sweep in 2 days time and if it means I can have a more natural birth I think 2 paracetamol and the glass of wine may be in order!!
