Buying things for baby

Just got to third trimester and not bought a single thing but do know what make of pram and crib I'd like after doing some research.

Found a really good deal on second hand pram, best price I've found and arranged to view this week.

28 weeks still feels too early to me to buy but I want to strike when I find bargains. If we do buy it we don't have any relatives nearby where we can leave it but I might put it in garage for a couple of months as dont really want it in house yet.

Am I being too cautious/ superstitious? Not sure I'll ever feel ready to start buying but leaving it all to well over 30 weeks is probably not a good idea either

Personally I’m a planner and I wanted all the practical things in and ready as you just never know when you will go in to labour. I’m not a superstitious person so having it in the house didn’t bother me. We built it before the baby was here as we did with everything else so that when baby came home, it was all ready. But it’s completely personal preference and if you don’t feel comfortable doing it, that’s understandable. Just check the timeframe for ordering things though as some prams etc can take a few weeks to be delivered x

Most people start buying things after their 12 week scan as the risk of miscarriage drops significantly. I’d start getting at least the main things now as I know a lot of people who have gone into labour early or ended up on bed rest towards the end and then struggled to get anything. Midwives recommend getting a hospital bag ready from around 32 weeks too just incase. I’ve had stuff in my house for both of mine and everything is fine. Don’t get caught up in superstitions.

I’m 31weeks. I have bought clothes, sleeping bags etc but haven’t bought the big items yet (crib/Moses or car seat). Potentially we have a relative with a pram, but if not we can pick one up from somewhere.

I totally understand how you feel. I'm 19 weeks and only have a few bits of clothes, bottles and dummies. I know even after my 20 week scan I probably won't start buying much. I think I'll get most stuff after 30 weeks to be honest. Unless obviously like you say, there's any good deals on, then I probably would get stuff a bit earlier in that case. I just personally don't see the rush to buy stuff. I know some people due around the same time of me who already have their prams and I just don't get it 😂

I'm 14 weeks with 3rd child, my daughters are 11 and 13 so I have nothing left. Buying mostly second hand apart of clothes and personal care. I already bought travel system as I had my eyes on specific models which don't come up often, especially in good price. I got full set GB Maris in great condition for £50🙈so just couldn't resist, put it in summer house for now. Also got wooden swinging crib to keep in living room, so I don't have to constantly run up and down first couple of months, that was only £20 lol. Shpock and marketplace are great for bargains. I know it's early but my belly is getting really big already and I have lots of room rearrangement and decluttering to do. Stuff I buy is not expensive so even if anything happened I could resell it easily.

@Msduster I started buying after 20 week scan and have it all stored and packed away in the spare room.
I'm 36 weeks and need to think about putting it up x

I got my first bits very early, I was about 6 weeks tops when my birthday rolled round this year and my wonderful partner got me a pair of baby socks, baby name book and diary to write and update my pregnancy to enjoy in future. He is massively superstitious but knew it was the only thing I would have wanted for my birthday really! Just going against the norm as we also have a few rompers now as well. No big ticket items until my 12 week scan, we had an early one due to bleeding and one at 10.5 weeks due to anxiety to see baby.
