Hi!
20 weeks pregnant and suffering with my back and my hips, usually at night I would sleep on my stomach but being 20 weeks pregnant this is no longer possible, I’m having to sleep on my sides, tossing and turning throughout the night, with me being pregnant and a little chunky this is putting a lot of pressure on my hips and back and it’s starting to get painful.

what I want to ask is has anyone else suffered the same and found anyway to get comfortable and ease the pain away.

I have had issue with my back since I had my first child, I can’t lay flat on my back otherwise I cannot get up, I have to be pulled up and the pain I get is terrible.

thank you

Have you been to an osteopath?

Hi, I am also suffering with hip pain at night. Usually I would sleep on my back but my doctor has advised against it because apparently the baby can rest on a main artery which can cause you to pass out! Not something I would like to risk!!
I have been googling how to alleviate hip pain and found that yoga stretches have helped. Also using a ton of pillows when you sleep - under your knees and behind your back. I have a pregnancy pillow although I’m not convinced with it tbh. Apparently having a bath before you go to bed should help too but I haven’t tried that yet

@Garman no I haven’t, is this something the hospital can refer me too?

@HRSC Thank you I’ll have a look and give some a go, pillows I have millions 😂
I had a pregnancy pillow with my first and apart from it being comfy I didn’t find it helped anymore than usual pillows.

I only know of them from private practice and I'm not in UK so I don't know.

I’ve had the hip pain in both pregnancies. It’s horrible. I saw a pregnancy physio this time and she said that I’m probably not drinking enough water. She was right, I’ve made a real effort to drink more and it’s still there but loads better. The dr also prescribed magnesium to drink an hour before bed. It does mean im getting up to use the bathroom more but it’s better than the pain

Oh and a softer bed can help. If you have a spare duvet, fold it and sleep with it under you.
