Finding out gender 16 weeks

I’m going to find the gender out at 16 weeks at a private scan, but a bit worried that it won’t be possible to tell / will still look like a girl at this point. Does anyone have experience with finding gender out at this stage and we’re they right?

also I’m exactly 16 weeks the day we go on holiday so not sure whether to find out that morning, or to wait a week and find out when back, what would you suggest?

I only know of one person who had a 16 week scan that was wrong- I'd probably still go!

Oh really, maybe I should wait for post holiday when I’m 17 weeks

I know of someone who got told girl at 16 weeks. Decorated the nursery, bought everything girl, then at 30 weeks got told it was actually a boy. I’ve had 2 surprises but finding out this time. Will be waiting until 18-20 weeks to find out though so there’s more certainty.

She was told girl, was so excited after 2 boys and then found out she was expecting a boy at 26 weeks

I had a gender scan at 16 weeks - boys clear as day (twins)
I've had 20 scans since (complicated pregnancy), they're definitely still boys!

The gender scan was lovely, it was the only non medical one we've had, fully recommend!

Thanks everyone :)

I found out at 15+1 that I was having a girl. It was pretty obvious from what I saw on the screen. Definitely no boy parts there! I've since had another scan at just over 17 weeks and deffo still a girl. I think as long as baby isn't being awkward then it's easy enough for them to tell by 16 weeks ☺️

Went for a private scan (not specifically for gender) today at 15w+2d. The baby was lying on its side so the key parts were hidden between the legs and the sonographer couldn't tell. Will have to wait for our 20w scan. 😞

@katerose2022 At our local scan place they class anything pre 15 weeks as a reassurance scan and then 15 to 20 is a gender scan. If they can't tell baby's gender, they schedule you in for a free re-scan

katerose2022 · 04/03/2023 20:15

Thanks! Yes reckon it's the same at the place that I went to. The one I booked is part of my 3x early pregnancy scan package which they do pre-16 week, so I wouldn't be able to get a free re-scan for gender.

Ive done gender scans at 16 weeks with both of my pregnancies 😊 no problems. I'd recommend going with Ultrasound Direct if you have one near you xx

We had our gender scan at 15+5 and he was very obviously a boy 😊
