Early pregnancy after miscarriage - anxiety

Hi,

I had an early miscarriage (6 weeks) last October. I took a couple of pregnancy tests last night and both have come back positive (and again this morning, yes I get obsessed with them). It's suuuuuuper early, actually only 3+5. I'm thinking it's a good sign that it's showing up already!

But I don't feel excited at all - just so so worried I'm going to lose it again. Any advice for how to cope in these early weeks after having had a miscarriage?

Thank you.

Congrats! I also had a miscarriage last year and it was really traumatic. I'm now 15+4 weeks (after also finding out at 3+5) and it has been really anxious making so I definitely know how you feel. I think you have to try and take it one day at a time, and try not to feel overwhelmed with the possibility of things going wrong. I'm still nervous, but after 3 scans and now with a little bump I'm trying to relax a little. I also found doing some meditation really useful - as a way of clearing my head when my anxiety took over.

Strawberry08 · 08/03/2023 21:17

@SuzieB7 Hey. How are you getting on? I am 5+3 and have had 4 miscarriages in the past before having my little boy so incredibly anxious. This is an ivf baby so stakes are really high.
Just wanted to give support and say the only way I have coped in the past is to take things day by day, stay busy, only look as far forward as the next milestones (scans etc). I had lots of early scans too with my last (successful) pregnancy because it helped reassure me!

SuzieB7 · 09/03/2023 07:28

Thank you both for your messages!! Congratulations to you too!!! One day at a time sounds good, I'm so busy thinking ahead all the time. Just so hard not yo interpret everything. Had a terrible sleep last night - a weird tingling feeling kept coming over me around the boob/torso area and then this morning my boobs don't feel as sore. Naturally head going wild. Got to try to realise I can't control any of it I guess and try some meditation!

It’s so so hard isn’t it. I also have days where I don’t feel pregnant at all and then others where I feel crappy and so hard over analyse.
I have a scan on Sunday which my gp arranged which i’m equally dreading and looking forward to!
Are you about 5 weeks now? And are you getting an early scan or waiting?

SuzieB7 · 09/03/2023 09:54

Ah I hope it all goes OK on Sunday @Strawberry08 please update me if that's ok. Yes 5 weeks tomorrow, we will probably have an early scan around 8 weeks but that seems aaaaages away! 😂

Hi OP, congratulations on your pregnancy. I totally sympathise, I'm 4w6d and we had a loss 12 months ago so naturally this time I am quite anxious.
The only advice I can give, in the same boat as you, is to take one day at a time. Try to have other things going on to take your mind off the pregnancy (easier said than done, right?) like a weekend away to look ahead to, a project at home, etc. It's natural to still be anxious but it will give you something else to focus on in these early weeks.
The first 12 weeks are the slowest 12 weeks ever.

SuzieB7 · 09/03/2023 19:44

Congratulations @Hooverthestairs ! Yes these first weeks are absolutely crawling by! Luckily we are in the middle of selling/buying a house so lots of distractions (stress 😂). One day at a time for all of us! 💪

@Hooverthestairs ah congratulations on your pregnancy and sorry to hear about your loss too.
It’s a hard time isn’t it. I try and remember that even with previous losses, the odds are still in your favour for it to work out

SuzieB7 · 14/03/2023 19:47

Hi @Strawberry08 I hope the scan went OK on Sunday?

Strawberry08 · 14/03/2023 19:52

@SuzieB7 yes it did thank you!! Little bean with a heartbeat. I’ve got another on Monday with my ivf clinic. I find it easier to have them frequently as it helps me to relax.
How are you doing?

SuzieB7 · 14/03/2023 19:56

Ah that's absolutely great news!!! So so pleased! Yeah OK, good days (where I feel a bit sick 🤣 ) and then bad days where i don't really feel sick. Think we might book a scan for next weekend.

Strawberry08 · 14/03/2023 22:05

@SuzieB7 I am totally the same. I felt like I had the worlds most severe hangover on Sunday, whereas today I can’t even tell I’m pregnant. It’s so anxiety inducing!!
Ah that’s a good idea. What would your weeks be next weekend?

SuzieB7 · 21/03/2023 10:41

@Strawberry08 I'm so sorry I didn't respond! It doesn't seem to notify me sometimes when there's been a reply! I got myself all worried and actually booked an early scan for this Saturday just gone and everything was fine. Was just a tiny dot but it had a little flicker of a heartbeat which is great!

How are you getting on? I'm battling horrible reflux at the moment, seem to have that instead of nausea so far.

Strawberry08 · 21/03/2023 11:10

@SuzieB7 ah I’m so thrilled for you it went well!! It only gives reassurance for about a day I find before I want another 🤣
My pregnancy was through IVF so I’ve just had my IVF clinic scan at 7 weeks 2 days and got a lovely blob with a strong heartbeat!

SuzieB7 · 21/03/2023 11:54

Aaaahhh how gorgeous @Strawberry08 how reassuring and exciting! We're crawling towards that 12 week mark!

Hey @SuzieB7 @Strawberry08 @Hooverthestairs @AnotherStory23 I know this is an old post but I wondered how you were all doing? I am currently awaiting my 7 week IVF scan (Thursday!) and I'm in the exact same situation as you guys where I am ADAMANT I've had a MMC and there is going to be an empty hole there. (physically and in my heart!)

I too have the symptoms coming and going and poking my boobs ever 2 minutes! Would love to know how you're all doing. x

Strawberry08 · 24/10/2023 12:04

@GCS34 I am 38.5 weeks pregnant and awaiting imminent arrival of my little boy!!
Hope that gives some reassurance. Best best of luck for Thursday. I’m sure everything’s going to be perfect

SuzieB7 · 24/10/2023 20:38

@GCS34 keeping everything crossed for you! I will be 38 weeks tomorrow and am booked in for a csection next Friday! So all ok over here. I would say "try not to worry" but we all know that's impossible. But hopefully there's some reassurance here. X

@SuzieB7 @Strawberry08 thank you both for getting back to me and congratulations to you both! And so soon for you @SuzieB7 - you feeling okay? So exciting that he/she is nearly here!
Thank you for your wishes it's just so hard to see positive when you are expecting the worst, and I guess with it being my first, it's all new and not working is the only thing I am familiar with, not it working!

Strawberry08 · 19/11/2023 18:08

How’s it going @GCS34 ??

How’s it going @GCS34 ??

Hey @Strawberry08 thanks for checking in. Our 7 week scan had a HB but a very small CRL - for ivf, things like dates being out weren’t a possibility so I already had my concerns but the HB was strong. Was told to come back for a rescan 10days later and unfortunately we lost the little one 2 weeks ago at our re-scan 2 weeks ago tomorrow. The heart had stopped they think just after our scan - so 7w+2/3 ish. I had surgery the day after - not last weds the weds before, and fully recovered. I have a scan tomorrow at my ivf clinic to check everything is clear and look to go again. How are you getting on? When is due day?

Strawberry08 · 20/11/2023 10:21

@GCS34 I am so so sorry, really devastated for you.
Do you have embryos or do you have to go through IVF egg collection etc again?

I had my little boy (Harry) on the 1st November & he’s doing brilliantly. He was an IVF baby, following my naturally conceived older boy (now 2) but both came after 4 miscarriages. So please don’t give up hope! After my 4 miscarriages the only thing I did differently with my 5th and 6th successfully pregnancies were take the progesterone pessaries and baby aspirin (150mg per day). Not sure if you were doing that but worth a thought when you get pregnant again xx
