Had my scan today and saw a lovely heartbeat, 142bpm. I’m 7 weeks and 2 days (i know this for sure as i went through ivf) however baby is measuring small at 6 weeks and 5 days and i’m quite concerned. My ivf clinic is referring me to the early pregnancy unit for a 9 week scan.
As i’m a first time mom all this is new to me, does anyone know if this is normal and what could be causing the baby to be small?
xx

@roxyricee I had brownish pinkish discharge around 7 weeks with first pregnancy and it was fine. They just thought it was old implantation blood. It maybe also be something call cervical erosion, especially as you had sex recently, which is often caused by hormone changes and is benign. Might be best to ask your midwife/doctor? The only advice I was given was don't have sex for a week or 2 and keep an eye on it

MeganC104 · 10/03/2023 13:38

Any salty snack tips that are healthy? Poor child is growing on pickles and crisps at the moment. It's the only thing I really fancy eating.

Hi there - new to all of this...

I've been experiencing brown discharge since yesterday. It came VERY faintly (resembled debris at first), then a familiar brown discharge, and this morning, it had more pink in the discharge.

I'm not in any pain (other than crippling anxiety). Also, I have not had any symptoms of nausea or have vomited.

I was experiencing soreness of breasts, and I am tired, but I have been working out still (prenatal workouts) and otherwise feeling fine.

sensitive information: I have had sex with my husband as recent as 5 days ago and wonder if this result may be from that experience

Completely scared and freaking out thinking this may be how a miscarriage starts....

Anyone's guidance, advice, or personal experience would be so helpful!

This doesn't sound good but then it might be nothing to worry about. I'd try and convince your epu to scan you to put your like at ease. I couldn't get them to scan me when I had similar so you may have to push it. Hope all is okay x

LaVitesse2022 · 10/03/2023 14:00

@Koalawhala great to hear your scan went well today! Bet you're feeling less anxious now :)

@roxyricee best thing is to contact your midwife and try to get an early scan for reassurance. When I went for my scan last week sonographer said she could see a bit of some internal, for me not to worry if I saw brown discharge soon or body might just absorb it. So far I haven't experienced any discharge but apparently it can be quite common and not necessarily an indication of anything wrong

LaVitesse2022 · 10/03/2023 14:01

*I meant to say some internal blood

SlowlyGainingConfidence · 10/03/2023 14:20

@Starlightnights you're describing my first pregnancy, it's normal so don't panic but do tell your midwife when you can. Weeks 6&7 I was so miserable, loads of crying & even googled cut off dates for termination as I felt I couldn't cope for much longer. It slowly but surely got better from that point & I enjoyed the 2nd & 3rd trimesters. I did have extra mental health support though, including counselling and that really helped so definitely keep talking about how you feel.

I'm feeling pretty rubbish, tired & nauseous all the time. Just 7 weeks so bit apprehensive about the next week or two given last time but so far mentally in a better place - I'm on medication this time & in counselling again by chance too. Sending thoughts to everyone feeling unwell, day by day we're getting through it & it definitely will get better.

Koalawhala · 10/03/2023 14:39

Thank you, yes much less anxious now @LaVitesse2022!

Weirdly, the sonographer said she could see that the egg had come from the right ovary - has anyone else had that mentioned at a scan?

Must say the private scan experience was very nice (my first one). Very warm and spa like and sonographer was lovely, I didn’t feel rushed at all and felt like she explained everything in so much more depth than previous nhs scans. Definitely recommend if you are in a position to have one. Appreciate not everyone is or would need one though

Koalawhala · 10/03/2023 14:44

@roxyricee i had similar spotting/bleeding in a previous pregnancy and was told that although the embryo is implanted there is still a lot of movement and heavy exercise/sex can jostle things about a bit to create spotting. Fingers crossed for you x

katherine123x · 10/03/2023 15:05

@Koalawhala omg yes I had this too and she could still see egg shell. That absolutely BLEW MY MIND! 😂

Alexandra07 · 10/03/2023 15:08

@Koalawhala where did you have your scan? I'll have to do one before my nipt. I hope my experience is as good as yours!

Koalawhala · 10/03/2023 15:10

@katherine123x haha it blew my mind too! 😂she said she could see the follicle. Thought it was cool that she mentioned it

I also have a fibroid, it didn’t cause any issues during my last pregnancy so hoping it won’t this time

LaVitesse2022 · 10/03/2023 15:19

@Koalawhala so cool that they could see that!! My sonographer tried to check for it but couldn't be sure which one it had come from. But I used to have ovulation pain and noticed it would vary sides from month to month 🙂

PeopleAreToads · 10/03/2023 16:12

@Koalawhala DH works in animal fertility and was very excited to explain all the science to me when the sonographer said they could see the same 😂

So how can they tell? I'm intrigued

I have a friend who works with "bovine genetics" with the family business. We call her the bull wan*ker 🙊🙊

Natacat · 10/03/2023 18:50

@ttcttc i was told it was definitely my right ovary and when she measured it, it measured significantly bigger than the left.

I also knew it was the right due to ovulation pain so it was so cool to have it confirmed.

Your ovary measured bigger?

Natacat · 10/03/2023 19:09

@ttcttc yeah and she said that it increases in size before releasing the egg and then stays larger to produce plenty of progesterone to keep the early pregnancy safe.

PeopleAreToads · 10/03/2023 19:17

@ttcttc they can see the corpus luteum left behind on the ovary you ovulated from, the sonographer showed us mine on the scan

ttcttc · 10/03/2023 19:36

@PeopleAreToads @Natacat every day is a school day. I had no idea.

LWestYorks · 10/03/2023 20:45

Evening ladies! I’m really struggling with the nausea and tiredness to the point where it’s getting me down as I just have no get up and go. Does anyone else feel the same? I’m 9+1

PrimarilyParented · 10/03/2023 20:49

@MeganC104 on the salty snacks. I’d say salty popcorn, snack a jacks and nuts (I’m obsessed with pistachios atm). I know nuts are high in calories but they are healthy.

Hankthehonk · 10/03/2023 21:25

Feeling sorry for everyone with bad nausea, I've had random waves of it (especially triggered by the smell of flowers or mushrooms, wth) but it's bearable compared to what some of you are going through.

I've had my booking appointment and blood tests done this week and nhs 12 week scan appointment confirmed for 14 April. I have my private scan on Sunday morning and I'm feeling anxious tonight. Even though I told myself I wouldn't get carried away, the 4 weeks that I've known I'm pregnant feels like a long time. During that time I've got excited, hopeful, ready for this baby...hoping beyond hope everything is OK on Sunday. Any tips to manage this anxiety would be helpful, the fear is hitting me hard tonight.

VictoriaBlossom · 10/03/2023 21:50

@Hankthehonk yes i can completely sympathise with you. I was very anxious, well im sure you've seen my previous posts. Worrying that im not sick, worrying that I have very few symptoms, I googled the hell out of everything because i fixated on it.
Boyfriend just said to me the night before my scan, there's nothing you can do either way. Try and think positive thoughts, you've only got 2 sleeps,
The best ever feeling is the anxiety going away because you can see that heartbeat on the screen.
Sending lotttssss of hugs

Alexandra07 · 10/03/2023 22:06

@Hankthehonk try to keep yourself busy so you don't think of the scan the whole time. Can you go out for a walk, a meal or do something nice for yourself to change focus? As said before, there is nothing to do to affect how the scan goes, but at the same time it's more likely that everything will be fine!

I have my 12 week scan on the 13th! Let us know how it goes on Sunday.

No tips about the nausea, mine is not severe but I welcome it as a sign of hormones doing their job. I do have to eat often and small amounts.

I 6w5d and so bloated! Does this go away? I was hoping to hide the pregnancy till the 12 week scan, but it seems impossible! I can't remember this much bloating with my first.
