Low lying placenta and bleeding (18 weeks)

I’m currently 18+4 with my second child. I had a couple of weeks of (mostly
brown but some red) spotting at around 12 weeks and then on Thursday night had a bigger (red) bleed and a bigger bleed again today.

After my spotting at 12/13 weeks, I had a scan at the EPU and they said my placenta is low and quite close to my cervix so that could be the cause (but there was also an empty second sac seen at my 12 week scan that had disappeared by the 13 week EPU one so could also have been that). In triage today, I was told the most likely cause of the big bleeds on Thursday and today were the low lying placenta but I have my 20 week scan a week on Friday so will find out more then.

Just posting to see if anyone has any similar experiences they can share and any advice? Baby sounded nice and healthy when they listened in in triage, which was a huge relief but it’s all just so worrying and I feel like I’m in a bit of limbo until I find out more at my scan. I’ve had a MMC in the past so am extremely anxious in pregnancy at the best of times and this is really heightening that.

Thank you!!

I’m the same found out at 13 weeks due to bleeding. How did you get on? X

I did AS for the OP and she had her baby at 35 weeks and the baby was fine.

Hi! The placenta had moved up by my 20 week scan and there were no signs of any other problems. The bleeding stopped, too. My waters broke at 35 weeks and baby was born at 36+5, absolutely healthy. She’s now six-months-old and lying on me after a feed 🥰
I hope all goes well for you, it’s so worrying but my extensive googling told me that more often than not, the placenta will move up and out of the way - I hope that’s the case for you, too xx
