Had a light bleed (one time) on Sunday morning, midwife called me this morning and said could be signs of a missed miscarriage? Am nearly 15 weeks and PETRIFIED

Hi everyone,

I posted on Sunday as noticed a small amount of red blood on the paper (a penny’s worth) when I wiped on Sunday. I do suffer from haemorrhoids so thought it could also be from them.

Ive had no bleeding or significant pain since then. Someone from the EPU called me back this morning and said it could be a ‘missed miscarriage’ and I need to get a rescan in 2 weeks because I had a scan on Saturday and they don’t advise more than 2 scans in two weeks. I am absolutely petrified and beside myself. Does anyone have any experience in this? I was under the impression a missed miscarriage was no symptoms and with a miscarriage I’d have heavy bleeding/clots and pain. Sorry, worried FTM here! Any advice is appreciated x

Have you already had a scan qnd see the heartbeat? It's probably a subchorionic bleed which is nothing to worry about.

You can't go on being this worried though. It's not good for the baby. Phone back and insist you must have a scan. (I've had 2 subchorionic hematomas this pregnancy and they are always happy to scan me for reassurance, as they should be!)

If they say no (which would be unreasonable in my opinion) could you pay for a private scan today?

I am really surprised they would suggest that with such a small bleed and without checking anything. I would call back and speak to someone else, that midwife does not seem very helpful

I actually had a scan on Saturday (a private one to show my MIL) and she said everything was fine! The bleed happened on Sunday morning, but it wasn’t constant. Just one time when I wiped. The midwife said you shouldn’t have more then two scans in 2 weeks (which concerned me) as because of my anxiety I’ve had 4 already in this pregnancy!

Me too - I called back and left a message. Just asked for someone to contact me. Pregnancy is such a worrying time!

So happy it worked out ok x.

If its not cramping you're probably absolutely fine but yes defo get another scan. You might have a small subchorionic hematoma which is nothing to worry about or the cervix might have been bleeding as it will be sensitive just now.

Midwife is wrong to suggest missed miscarriage. No evidence of that!

@Mans1991 I'm no professional, but that doesn't seem right what she's said.

I have haemorrhoids and if I've not gone toilet for a few days or whatever they do bleed bright red but I've always been able to locate where it's come from if that makes sense. Also in particular the amount you had and no further and it was after the toilet.

I would book in another private scan, if you can for later this week for your own re assurance if they won't scan you on the NHS.

People have weekly scans at points and I've had quite a few scans this pregnancy due to history of miscarriages. I wouldn't worry about that. X

@eliayd wrong thread?

@Mans1991 I think they usually say no more than every 2 weeks is for growth, if you do it more regularly you haven’t left enough time to allow for change. In your circumstances though I think they should check you. Such a small amount of bleeding I wouldn’t say was likely to be a miscarriage, especially when you weren’t sure where it had come from

Crap! Yes wrong thread! Apologies OP! X I hope everything works out ok for you

Mans1991 · 28/02/2023 15:29

Thank you! She said it was because the heat can harm the unborn baby. Which worried me a lot! I actually ordered a fetal Doppler last week and it should arrive tomorrow. Hoping that eases my anxiety. Do you have any experience with those?

thanks!

@Mans1991 so sorry you're going through this OP, hoping it's nothing serious as you said it's a small amount. Also - I'm shocked your midwife misinformed you like that re the scans, as it's absolutely not true. If she says it again ask her where she read this, as I'd love to know! I had a scan a week from about 16 weeks which was done by my consultant, who expressed no concerns over regular scanning. It's scary she is happy to spread nonsense information like that which can lead to a lot of anxiety.
