5 week scan today and no yolk - should i be worried?

Hi all,

I was just looking for some advice/clarity on my scan today. I found out really early on I was pregnant and had some really bad pains so have been under the care of the hospital for the last 2-3 weeks.

The scan last week (assuming 4 weeks pregnant) showed nothing but my hCG levels increased 178% on two days prior. Went in for a scan today and there was an 8mm fluid sack but no yolk. The doctors/midwife seemed concerned and have booked me in for another scan next week.

If you go off the last day of my first period I would be 7 weeks pregnant, but i have really irregular cycles (40+days) and based on tests i ovulated on the 30-31st January which would more likely put me at 5 weeks pregnant.

Has anyone else had something like this before and had good news a week later? Im so concerned that this sack will be empty next week and will lead to the inevitable.

I had this last week i was scanned for a ? ectopic at 5 weeks pregnancy was intrauterine but no yolk sac . 1 week of lots of stress and worry and yesterdays scan showed a pregnancy of nearly 7 weeks with a heartbeat . I had small amount of pain with no bleeding and strong pregnancy symptoms i probably should never of been scanned and put through a weeks worth of worry but it was really lovely to see the heartbeat so i guess it was worth it in the end !

So glad it went well for you!! I've just had my blood results and theyve gone from 317 last week to 5,453 this week so im just hoping this is an early scan! xx

update this ended in a miscarriage i had a private scan almost two weeks later and there was no heartbeat . I had very strong pregnancy symptoms that by the time i was diagnosed with MMC i felt truly dreadful i think this pregnancy was doomed from the start . I had failed medical management and needed surgical management , it’s 2 weeks post op and i’m still bleeding but the pregnancy tests are negative we hope to try again .
