Hi. I don’t really know what I’m looking for here so bear with me. I think it’s more of a rant. Bit of background, I had my first baby at 32 weeks 19 months ago due to PPROM which was as probably down to Polyhydramnios. I’m currently 36 weeks pregnant with second baby. I had a positive partis test at 30 weeks and received steroids and have had various stints in hospital due to reduced movements/irritable uterus/transverse/breech lie. I’ve been having regular growth scans and at 33 weeks it was noted I had Polyhydramnios and my baby was measuring along the 99th centile for abdo and head and 79th centile for femur. Anyway fast forward to 36 weeks and fluid has increased and at 35+5 baby was estimated to be 7lbs 11oz. I was an 8-10 pre pregnancy and I’m 5’8 and husband is 5’7 and is of stocky build but neither of us are overly tall or heavy.

Anyway I was admitted to hospital Tuesday (for the 4th time) I’ve had another GTT which is fine, bile acids are fine no infections and I’ve had other bloods done. Just awaiting the results. CTG picks up regular tightenings but as they aren’t overly painful no one is worried. Baby is cephalic but not engaged as there lots of fluid so she may struggle. Basically, I’m struggling. I’m in so much pain right it’s PGP and pressure down below. It hurts to sit stand and lie. My abdo is rock hard all the time and I just feel like no one is listening. I’m sick of being admitted and then discharged being almost made to feel like I’m wasting people’s time (maybe that’s just my paranoia) please please don’t get me wrong I’m glad I’ve got this far and I’m happy baby is growing and comfy. I just needed to rant and ask if anyone has been in a similar situation. I see my pre term consultant next week so I’m hoping they will make a plan. I feel so scared giving birth to a big baby and not knowing if she will engage. If I’m struggling now how will I make it to 40 weeks? Has anyone been through similar. Did you get induced earlier? Did you have a c section?

Side note I lost my mucus plus at 30 weeks and have been losing it in parts ever since. I’m presuming it’s regenerated as I’ve lost a lot of mucus for the past 24 hours no bloody show so I don’t know if things are happening or if it’s just going to regenerate again.

Sorry for the long post. If you made it this far thanks for reading.

Hi this sounds super stressful, sorry you're having to go through it.

I also have Polyhydramnios (from GD) and am having scans every couple of weeks to monitor it. They said if it gets much worse/bump bigger and skin taut then I need to call them asap and come in for a drain (after trying steroids which sounds like you're already doing).

Have they talked to you about draining some fluid at all? It obviously comes with risks for early labour so they are poss doing all they can do avoid.

Also, I'm having a planned c section as my first baby was an EC - and this baby has some heart issues - so my consultant has been v on board with c section as baby is also big.

Sorry you are going through it too @HPsauce01. I haven’t seen my pre term consultant since 24 weeks as I’ve been passed from pillar to post a bit. So I’m hoping she will be on board with either an ‘earlier’ induction or a section. I know growth scans will be inaccurate anyway and even more so with all the fluid. Nope they’ve never discussed draining the fluid off. I hope they don’t need to do that for you. I’m just fed up of some doctors being OTT with management and others being blasé it’s very confusing. How many weeks are you? I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well and sorry to hear of the heart condition for your little one.

Remember it's your body and you can basically demand an elective c section if you want one!

I'm 33 weeks, longest pregnancy ever.

tattoosanddisney86 · 23/02/2023 16:56

I never thought I’d get to 36 weeks after having the first at 32! Have they said when they will aim to give you your section? Or does it just depend on fluid levels and baby etc?

Will be between 38-39 weeks, they need to keep him in as long as poss for the heart as he'll b having surgery when he's a few days old - so it's a bit of a balancing act.

tattoosanddisney86 · 23/02/2023 17:32

Aww bless you and him. How stressful. One of reg’s told me I wouldn’t go last 39 the other day but I don’t see how I can physically go much further. I’ll just play the waiting game and worry every in case my waters go and the cord prolapses 🙄

I wonder why they've talked to me about the drain and not you as yours sounds a bit more severe - might be worth asking. I feel for you, it's so uncomfortable and worrying!

tattoosanddisney86 · 23/02/2023 17:51

I don’t know. I wonder if it’s my gestation now? I’m not sure? Maybe I’m just taking all the dramatic bits and missing the fact it’s not that bad, but I don’t know why they would admit for 2 days whilst I had some tests done. I might speak to my consultant next week.

I would, you're not wasting their time!

Room4onemore · 24/02/2023 00:43

I’m 37 weeks and have polyhydramnios, I’m going in on Tuesday for a sweep and to book my induction for around 38 weeks. But on my scan 2 weeks ago baby was oblique so not head down, I need to check this before I have a sweep. I was also told if my waters go it’s a 999 incase of cord prolapse but I’m hoping they don’t.

tattoosanddisney86 · 25/02/2023 05:40

Apologies for the delay in replying! There may now be another spanner in the works as I’m pretty sure she’s turned breech/possibly transverse overnight 🙄🥴 I can’t remember if I’m supposed to contact Triage or not… or just wait till I see my consultant on Thursday! These babies love to stress us ha ha.
