Can't sleep during pregnancy

Good morning everyone. I have no idea if this will make sense I am so sleep deprived but I am hoping that someone will have some tips.

I am 22 weeks pregnant and haven't slept properly in about a week. Pre pregnancy I would sleep on my side, rolling side to side during the night to stay comfortable. I was keen to keep this up as I know in later pregnancy side sleeping is important. The trouble is I get a pain in my back that wakes me up.
I have a c shape pregnancy pillow and there are pictures that show it being used for a back support (top under head, round the back and bottom end between legs). I cannot get it to work like this! As much as I try to get it right to my back it's so curved it doesn't touch it and always falls away during the night.
Using it round the front way is very comfortable when I first get in to bed and I can fall asleep quickly but the back pain soon creeps in. Because of the pillow I have to fully wake up and maneuver it so I can turn over which gives me relief for a few minutes before I need to go back the other way.
If I do happen to roll onto my back this ridiculous snore escapes my mouth! It sounds like a motor bike driving straight through the bedroom and wakes me and DH up.
That's all bad enough but of course half the time I wake up and DH is snoring, or the dog, or I get some wild anxious thoughts in my head that keep me awake. If I am tired enough I can sleep well on the sofa for an hour or so during the day but it means I am getting very little done.
Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas?
Are the u-shaped pregnancy pillows any good? Or those little ones that just go around your middle? I am loathed to spend more money on more pillows But this is seriously affecting me now.

Hi OP,

Yes, the U shaped pillows are good but most importantly you do not need to fret over sleeping on your back - the advice against back sleeping is due to the possible compression of an artery, but your body is going to send you a very clear message if this happening! It will not be occurring without you noticing.

Getting good sleep and not being in pain is more important. Also, you can cause yourself some pelvic dysfunction/disalignment by trying to stay in a position you are not comfortable in which you don't want for birth!

Yes try and stay off your back later in pregnancy but by that point you will probably be more comfortable on your side anyway!

The big u shaped KALLY pillow is great.

If the snoring is an issue then try a pillow wedged behind you and just under you so you can lean back in to it but you're not on your back.

Thank you for the advice.
I ditched the pregnancy pillow last night, wedge my head and shoulders up and just let myself roll wherever and I finally had a good night's sleep!

My back is hurting this morning so probably not complete solution but at least I can function today!

Xxx
