Do I tell my boss?

Hey.. I have literally just found out I'm pregnant which I'm over the moon, but I accepted a job back in January, I'm still waiting for my DBS to clear which means I haven't started the job yet. I'm waiting on that to start... I'm incredibly anxious about starting my first day (hopefully soon) knowing I'm pregnant. When do you think the best time to tell my new boss is?

What sort of job is it? If it involves heavy lifting or working with chemicals then I'd tell them sooner rather than later. Otherwise I'd wait and see. You have up until you are 25 weeks pregnant to tell them.

It's nursery teacher?

My advice would be to wait. I was in the same situation and I started my job and then waited to tell them when I was 14 weeks. Anything can happen and you only need to share when you feel ready and comfortable to do so - don't feel pressured.

Thank you xx

Congrats on the pregnancy and the new job!

Only thing to consider is if any reasonable adjustments might need to be made, especially if they have cases of certain childhood illnesses going round like chicken pox which are best avoided during pregnancy. Maybe have a Google about pregnant nursery workers and see if there is any more specific advice?

Good luck!

Same position here - accepted a job in late December with a start date of 1 March and then found out I’m pregnant (ftm) in January. I’m going to try to get through month 1 before I tell my new boss (16 weeks at the moment and not showing yet).

@Spiralout aww hun. Hope it all goes okay for you. Still not sure what I'm going to do yet. I'm really not sure I get maternity either as I'm zero hour contract x
