Fillings whilst pregnant

I need a filling (back tooth.) Dentist advised white over silver due to not needing to drill so deep. I am 16 weeks pregnant, Google suggests no to silver fillings whilst pregnant (I have a few silver fillings already!) Are white fillings covered under exemption certificate? Receptionist didn’t think so and I’ve had to pay a £50 deposit.

Yes they are covered, I needed a backtooth filling repair, also at 16 weeks but dentist suggested a temporary white filling until I've delivered & then go back for permanent filling. I'd ask them to do whatever is covered by your certificate & is safest?

Thank you! I hate being put on the spot. Paid the deposit but confirmed it is refundable if needed. I had a tooth chip in previous pregnancy (front) and it was repaired with a white filling so not sure why this is different!

I've recently had a root canal and 2 x white fillings done at 25 weeks, all covered and no issues since. I think the only issue is silver but my dentist does white as standard. Dental treatment is covered and this is the treatment deemed suitable by the dentist so don't see why you should need to pay.
