Hi all,
is anyone expecting twins and how far along? I’m 9 weeks following frozen embryo transfer. I’ve had 2 miscarriages before so I’m super anxious.

I'm 23 weeks pregnant with twins, also after two miscarriages. I found the anxiety in the first trimester tough and kept waiting for things to go wrong, but have found things got slowly easier after a good 12 week scan, and after a good 20 week scan, and with starting to really feel the kicking in the last 10 days. I've finally let myself start to believe it's going to happen and am telling more people at work etc (it's also massively showing now too!)

Have you had any early scan at all? Congrats and wishing you well.
(And try not to tune in too much to the twin fear-mongering, there's many many more stories of things going well. I was actually quite sad when I found out it was twins as I just wanted a straight-forward pregnancy but feel better about it as the weeks go by.)

Lucy5yearsttc · 20/02/2023 22:46

@Seaswimmings that's wonderful news, congratulations!

I’ve had 2 scans because they’re ivf, one was at 6.5 weeks and one at 8. Have my 12 Wk scan in 2 weeks time and cannot be more nervous. This is around the time I miscarried before. And I’ve been getting cramping. Not sure if that’s normal? Have had it on and off for the last 2 weeks I’d say, but no bleeding. And terrible wind. Did you have any of that? Wishing time would just fly by x

Seaswimmings · 20/02/2023 23:18

Ive definitely had a lot of cramping through out, and I think with twins your womb and body generally is stretching more quickly to accommodate them both so it makes sense, but it's hard not to panic when you've been though loss. (The cramping, stretching and nerve pain has been more than I would've guessed, and sometimes it's really quite painful).
Hopefully it doesn't mean anything more than that for you either though the previous losses really do make it so hard to ever relax.

Having two good early scans is a really good start (I think on Tommy's stat is that a 8 week pregnancy scan with a healthy heartbeat has 98% chance of continuing?) . So hoping your 12 week one will be good too.
Being very windy is probably a good sign you're flooded with pregnancy hormones. Good luck 🤞

Hi, congratulations on your pregnancy!

I am 10 weeks today with DCDA twins - massive shock as I already have 6 children and only intended 1 more lol

Lucy5yearsttc · 21/02/2023 07:53

@Seaswimmings thank you! That’s reassuring! The cramps have really shocked and panicked me but I just hope that you’re right in that there’s a lot going on. Best of luck for you too x

Lucy5yearsttc · 21/02/2023 07:53

@xprincessxjanetx congratulations! That must’ve been such a shock! Have you had any cramping with your pregnancy?x

@xprincessxjanetx congratulations! That must’ve been such a shock! Have you had any cramping with your pregnancy?x

Tons of cramping! I've had 5 early scans already because I've been so worried about it but all has been fine. Apparently its because the uterus has to stretch twice as much which makes sense, so I try to remember that when it happens. I had a bit of bleeding around 2 weeks ago as well but all was fine thankfully! Twins is double the worry IMO!

Lucy5yearsttc · 21/02/2023 15:01

@xprincessxjanetx thats reassuring! I think I’ll wait until my 12 week scan if I can. But if the cramping gets worse I’ll go to epu. Have they been good with seeing you? I had bleeding too but everything so far ok. It is so stressful and worrying! Hopefully it all works out xx

Congratulations!
I'm 24 weeks with dcda twins. I've had terrible anxiety, but do every pregnancy after a miscarriage, even though it was 15 years ago.
I've had more pains this time, assuming it's the extra growing.
I had bleeding from week 9-15 but everything is fine and no idea why x

Lucy5yearsttc · 21/02/2023 21:30

@Kladebs congratulations to you! Glad to hear everything is fine despite bleeding. Why do they do this to us?! So so scary but it’s reassuring that everything is ok. I’m now just counting down to 12 week scan and can’t focus on anything else!x

Hello everyone!! Iv just found out we’re expecting twins from an early scan at 6+3.. seen a heartbeat and both in seperate sacks.

This pregnancy was straight from a miscarriage so I’m super super anxious.

Does the risk of miscarriage go down after seeing a heartbeat? And the risk of vanishing twin?

Id rather answers from people who’ve experienced twin pregnancies than trusting Google to make me more anxious..

thankyou! Xxx

Lucy5yearsttc · 28/02/2023 18:29

Hey @Expectingtwins2023 congratulations! I’m the same, expecting after 2 miscarriages so super anxious and nervous. I’ve read that the chance of miscarriage goes down after hearing a heartbeat but not sure what the stats are. In both my miscarriages we’d heard heartbeats. I keep going through phases of feeling relaxed and then anxious again. It’s such a tough time. Have my 12 week scan on Monday and I feel sick at the thought of it. How’re you feeling in general?x

OP posts:
Expectingtwins2023 · 28/02/2023 19:12

Hello @Lucy5yearsttc thankyou for replying!! Ah it’s just so awful isn’t it. If I could get scanned daily I definitely would lol. How exciting it’s on Monday! Have you had any other testing done before this? I’m sure everything will be fine!!

I’m feeling very sick, odd cramp in my back, symptoms come and go and when they go I fear the worst. I don’t want to wish the weeks away but I can’t help it! How are you feeling? Xx

Lucy5yearsttc · 28/02/2023 20:06

@Expectingtwins2023 I’ve had 2 scans so far. One because of bleeding and one at my IVF clinic and that was 8 weeks so it’s just a torturous wait for the next. Defo with you on testing everyday! Imagine!
feeling sick is good! My nausea has calmed down which is worrying but I’ve read past 10 weeks it might do that.. the cramps for me have been the most worrying! And back pain. It’s such a difficult time and especially as no friends know it’s hard to do anything or even speak to people as I have no energy!x

OP posts:
Expectingtwins2023 · 28/02/2023 21:09

I had a bleed aswell which led me to pay for a hcg blood test x2 over 2 days which showed it rising. I wish private scans were cheaper too! Where abouts do you live? Have you had NIPT testing? I think we have to pay for any testing in wales. The back pain really scared me but I’m sure this is just the beginning of the aches and pains we will get! I agree, we haven’t told anyone yet, it seems so scary with all your thoughts alone. Thank god for this forum! Xx

Lucy5yearsttc · 01/03/2023 18:24

@Expectingtwins2023 I’ve never looked at my HCG. Interesting. Live in Peterborough so there are a few of those ultrasound places which I might go to after the 12 week scan. I had a massive searing pain today when I was carrying my shopping. Hopefully nothing bad but I’m just overanalysing everything!

OP posts:
Expectingtwins2023 · 02/03/2023 13:46

How are you feeling? When is your 12 week scan? I’m booked in for a scan tomorrow in the EPU. Every pain I have or symptoms decreasing worries me so much. I suppose as it’s twins I’m imagining I should feel awful every day x

Lucy5yearsttc · 02/03/2023 15:49

@Expectingtwins2023 good that you can get a scan. Fingers crossed, will be thinking of you. Mine is Monday. X

I'm 30 weeks with mcda twins.

Early pregnancy was bloody awful, I had awful cramps and back pain but everything was fine and they stopped by 12 weeks.
Nausea and tiredness was actually crippling - my nausea calmed down ALOT in week 10, and I think it fully went about week 16.

Second trimester was much nicer symptom wise! I didn't really have any except general tiredness.

Everyone says you get huge but while I am very visibly pregnant, bump isn't crazy big yet and I only started to really struggle to move around about week 28. Evenings are much harder movement wise!

I'm only going to week 32-34 as my twins had ttts so they are delivering early, but any questions about before that time, ask away!

Lucy5yearsttc · 02/03/2023 18:22

@Aliceinwonderland5 thanks Alice! That’s reassured me loads! How wonderful you’re so close, hope everything goes well for you.
do you remember having watery discharge?! Sorry if TMI but I feel like it’s really bad this week!x

OP posts:
Aliceinwonderland5 · 02/03/2023 18:32

@Lucy5yearsttc
It is my first pregnancy so I have nothing to compare it to really but it is definitely a bit of a roller coaster, I hope you feel a bit less anxious after your 12w scan but if you're anything like me you'll be worrying forever now!

Re. Watery discharge, yes I did. It went away actually and has come back with a vengeance this week, I'm always worried my waters are leaking!

Do you know what type of twins you're having?

Lucy5yearsttc · 02/03/2023 18:36

@Aliceinwonderland5 yep will be worrying for the 9 months! But hopefully the scan will reassure. They think 2 sacs and placentas so far.
did you have lots more appointments because of the risk?x

OP posts:
Aliceinwonderland5 · 02/03/2023 18:43

@Lucy5yearsttc DCDA twins are much less risky, so that's good news! I think you will have scans every 4 weeks from 16 weeks and they'll deliver around 37 weeks.

I have MCDA twins (they share a placenta) so I should have had fortnightly scans from 16 weeks but at the 16 week scan they were found to have ttts so I've had a very complicated pregnancy and what feels like a million appointments - that is not the norm though and DCDA (two placenta) can't get ttts so you don't have to worry about that!

Lucy5yearsttc · 03/03/2023 11:39

@Aliceinwonderland5 oh wow, have just had to Google as I’m unclear on all the terminology! It’s funny because I’m a twin but I never knew all of these things! Hopefully yours is all going well so far and continues to xx

MissMooley · 03/03/2023 17:29

@Lucy5yearsttc im having Dcda twins, I was under a consultant anyway for other reasons, but I was put under another one once we knew it was twins.
As of 24 weeks, I'm having scans every 4 weeks to check growth then seeing consultant after. If all is well, that's all for extra appointments so not too bad x
