Hi,

Just had my first scan and was told that even though there's a sac and yolk sac. There's no embryo. All I have done is cry since. The sac is measuring at 8 weeks (27mm) which sounds about right for my dates.

Going to phone my doctors tomorrow and get referred to the EPU.

I've had no pain and my pregnancy symptoms have been intense. I also have a 11cm ovarian cyst and a tilted uterus. The sack is in the same area as my cyst.

I'm clinging onto hope that it's a misdiagnosis due to my cyst and uterus but I know that's probably me being ridiculous.

I'm just looking for a bit of guidance on what to expect and any similar experiences?

Thanks in advance!

So sorry to hear this. I had something similar at 7 weeks a few years ago. They gave me the options of waiting to miscarry naturally, taking medication to speed it up. You then go home to wait to bleed I think. It was more blood than I expected and quite scary for me, but I think I had an unusually bad time of it. I’m sorry things have gone like this. I think the only silver lining is that I don’t think it means anything or affects chances of future healthy pregnancies. But I am very sorry for your loss.

This has just happened to me, i’m devastated as this was our 7th round of IVF in 3 years TTC a sibling for my son. This was the only positive test and HCG we’ve ever done in that time and now I’m just at rock bottom really. So sorry this has happened to you as well.

So sorry that you are going through this.

I had a blighted ovum in October/November last year. For me it was a pretty lengthy process as they kept wanting to scan me again to be sure week after week. I then had retained products weeks after taking the medication but everything went back to normal once it had passed. In fact, I got pregnant again immediately after, with no period in between so the increased fertility afterwards is no joke. Not sure whether that’s helpful but the only thing that did get me through, focussing on being able to try again.

lots of love to you!

Hi, I am just going through this now. I was 10 weeks on Sunday and then on Monday out of the blue started bleeding and was told to go A&E who referred to EPU. The scan showed a sac but no baby, I am devastated. It somehow seemed worse that I had been so attached and excited for this baby that never really existed. But I guess there is no good way to miscarry. I asked the consultant a lot of questions and she said this is the most common type miscarriage, it can happen to anybody, and that most women go on to have healthy pregnancies the next time around, so I found that reassuring.

I think I was meant to stay and be given options but I was so upset and confused I went home. The bleeding got worse on Tuesday then yesterday severe cramps and more blood so I think I must have passed the tissue now although I never saw it. The EPU said I can arrange an appointment with them next week when I’m feeling better.

I guess since you are not bleeding you need to consider that if you don’t take the assisted route then you could be waiting some time for things to occur naturally on their own.
I think it’s protocol to scan twice, different people so they get a 2nd opinion before they offer you an assisted route.

I hope you are ok! I have found it really difficult this week my mind has been to some dark places of self loathing and blaming myself, guilt, anger. I can’t do or concentrate on anything. My husband and family are supporting me which has helped.
