Hi all

I am pregnant with my 2nd child, my 1st is just over 2. I am 7 weeks and the nausea/sickness is really ramping up. I'm struggling to carry on our daily routine and worried about work as I am a teacher. Has anyone had to be signed off for part of the first trimester? I am considering anti-sickness meds but read so many conflicting things it makes me worry about the baby. Any advice welcome. Thanks

I'm not too sure as I never took time off. But I think you can take pregnancy related sickness leave.. it's so hard to manage pregnancy nausea and work. Hopefully it does ease off.

Thank you for your response :) last few days has been sickness morning and evening and nausea all day long. I'm worried about being sick in front of the kids but also worried about having time off! So hard isn't it

If you haven't already, I would tell your employer so they're aware of the situation. I know TAs are often amazing and, with the expectation that you have one, I'm sure they'll help cover for you if you're feeling particularly unwell one day or if you need to leave the room suddenly.

I would only consider actually going off sick if I really couldn't do my role/my students justice but only you'll know the answer to that.

It is so hard. Feel so torn in those situations. Best thing is you look after yourself. I found my nausea difficult to deal with but after 3 months it disappeared. It is good to mention it to your employer. I got additional breaks and if i wanted to just sit down it was okay too. They will support you hopefully so don't ever feel like you can't say. We feel vulnerable but honestly it is such a massive thing being pregnant, you're carrying life and it takes toll on our bodies and health so please do put yourself first. I hope you are okay.
