I doubt they would let you see the body. Completely different but I had an abortion at 7 weeks and any tissue I passed was just taken away and disposed of (they didn't actually tell me what they did with it). I didn't pass the baby, they had to put me in stirrups for removal, and once removed was quickly taken away and I was back to my room. Hope you are okay xxx

A quick Google search suggests that a 14 week old fetus would measure around 8-9cm. Again hope your OK and I hope nothing I've said has upset you xxx

I had a baby with Edwards and terminated via surgical. However, in the TFMR (termination for medical reasons, meaning, terminating because your baby has medical issues) the discussion was always that you could see your baby. Many people who chose medical instead of surgical specifically chose it because it allowed them to see the baby.

There was a huge amount of discussion about what is done with the remains and whether you want to keep them or leave them with the hospital.

I think BPAS is the best place for reading details online and absolutely don't hesitate to speak with the hospital about these questions- they are totally standard. I found it really helpful to read other peoples' stories about their abortions to set my own expectations of how it would go, though they are pretty emotional so first have a think about whether that is a good fit for you or not. The Mumsnet antinatal testing results board is a good place to read a bunch of stories of peoples' abortions if you'd find that helpful. However, be aware that if you are terminating for personal, not medical reasons, it is important to be very, very sensitive to the vibe of the board before writing anything.

@EMcG3 Hi, Thank you so much. My baby was diagnosed with down syndrome last week. Although i love my baby so much i already have an 11 month old baby who is hard work. I will take a look on there though thanks. And yes i want to have a medical so i can see my baby.

Ah, I am so sorry to hear it is a very much wanted baby and I understand your choice. The board is below. Most people are in a roughly similar situation as you and can help you out. The other good resource is a charity called ARC (www.arc-uk.org/) who do work around this type of termination (called TFMR, or termination for medical reasons).

I really wish you the best, and between those two you should find the answers to your questions, and community, support and understanding from people going through the same thing as you.
