Any midwives/HCP around? (Pic) Protein ++++ on old, dry urine dipstick

Please can somebody tell me that everything is fine and I'm an idiot for testing with a clearly out of date urinary dipstick- so that I can go to sleep peacefully?

I have an old pack of old, discoloured dipsticks that needed throwing away weeks ago but decided to use one this morning (for some stupid reason) anyway. Nothing abnormal on there after the recommended minute. However, saw in the bin tonight that the protein but has dried to a very obvious blue colour, indicating lots of protein in my urine?

I've put on a huge amount of weight in the past 2/3 weeks, about a stone, though I gained a lot last time and lost it very soon after birth. BMI is usually 20/21 pre-pregnancy so normal. 32 weeks pregnant. Blood pressure has been fine throughout so far. Last checked 4 weeks ago.

I'm not going to bother the midwife because she'll tell me I'm an idiot and it's fine, but have doubts in the back of my mind. Will get new sticks from chemist tomorrow but can anybody please reassure me in the mean time that it means nothing?

Left stick is an unused dipstick
Middle is after one minute
Right is this morning's dried one

Think of them like pregnancy tests. If you read them after too long, they're invalid. I'm assuming as they were dry this was hours and hours later, so very invalid. Probably a urine dipstick version of an evaporation line. Plus you say they were in the bin, so they've also been contaminated, which could have contributed to the protein.

I hope you've managed to get yourself some new ones, and put your mind at ease. And judging by that morning one, drink some water! 😝

Hi, definitely get it checked again and consult with your midwife. If the sticks are left long if it more likely the results are invalid.

Hope that helps
