could it be glandular fever?

PaulaYatesbiggestFan · 08/02/2008 15:25

no! dont feel poorly just tired /death like from first thing in morning to last thing at night

i have been anaemic in all pgs and totally thought it was that...

I think 10;6 is on the low side, it depends on what your hb is normally like.

Have you had a full check up by your doctor? I think you should speak to your doctor again.

PaulaYatesbiggestFan · 08/02/2008 15:29

it was 13.4 at booking and now 18 weeks has dropped a bit in 5 weeks but secretary was dismissive

am vegetarian so cant eat meat and have had terrible constipation so do not want to start iron without say so

i sound such a moaner

that's why you should speak to the doctor, the receptionist isn't trained in interpreting blood results(although she might think she is)

PaulaYatesbiggestFan · 08/02/2008 15:32

yes belgo! just was trying not to waste everyones time,,,the thought of half term makes me shaky!

i am sure your doctor would not be so dismissive if you were converned

if you think anaemia is a factor you could try spa tone in the meantime, its very very gentle and really shouldn't clog you up at all - i have a history of digestive complaints and its the only iron i would take. tis miraculous stuff

PaulaYatesbiggestFan · 08/02/2008 15:35

yes i was reading some old threads ....how much is it - can it be got on prescription?

OP posts:
mazzystar · 08/02/2008 15:38

its about 6 quid a box - should last a month - not cheap and sadly not on prescription, i don't think. floradix good too.

VictorianSqualor · 08/02/2008 15:54

I have recently been told by my midwife and doctor that my hb was low as it was 10.8, apparently they prefer not to treat it until it is under 10.5.
They suggested I take pregnacare or pregnaday type vits, that contain iron to up it a bit, because it wasnt low enough to need treatment, but low enough to make me feel crap.

ConnorTraceptive · 08/02/2008 15:58

Ooh deffo go to the doctors and ask for iron my level dropped from 11 something down to 10.6 and the midwife put me on them straight away.

I'm glad she did as even after 2 months on them my iron level is now only 10.7 so god knows what it would have been if I wasn't taking them.

Doctors for you on monday my lass

merryberry · 08/02/2008 16:24

also get your thyroid checked. mine conked out somewhere in month 6 of first PG. I had to off on mat leave early, could not stir from bed. also had major pins/needles/numb arms syndrome with the tiredness.

PaulaYatesbiggestFan · 08/02/2008 20:32

oooh the wonders of mumsnet!

Thankyou all - so good to not feel alone

tbh this afternoon i said to dp I felt ike I was slipping into depression due to the complete lack of interest in anything that involved moving...

£6 lasts a month I think i will try that spatone - does any one know what it does to your bowels?

I'm sure I was about 10.6 when pg with DS and they put me on iron tablets.

I was then 10.4 after a 500ml pph. With iron levels at 10.4 I could hardly walk across the hospital room without getting out of breath - it was a really horrible feeling.

Hope you feel better soon.

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 08/02/2008 21:31

Hi there! Yes your Hb sounds on the low side. I suggest you take the iron but if your poo becomes very dark / almost black, stop taking the iron because it means you're taking too much.

I am 17 weeks and have been feeling the same way - completely dreading each minute of every day and terrified of how I'm going to cope with that day. I end up napping when DD sleeps in the day and have rearreanged my self-employment to enable that. So so tired that I can barely lift my arms and breathless too. I have actually felt considerably better in the last 2 days.

ConnorTraceptive · 08/02/2008 22:01

Haven't felt constipated on the iron although poo is black - was told this is not a problem though.

PaulaYatesbiggestFan · 08/02/2008 22:12

thankyou all

ptiypasi keep thinking - if i am this breathless ad worthless at only 18 weeks with little weight gain etc - then by the time i have a few extra stone and diluted pints of the red stuff - i will be crawling......!

Once you get sorted you will feel better.... I was the same and have been feeling better in the last 2 months of pregnancy than I did at any other point....I could hardly walk up the stairs at 22 weeks. Now I'm 36weeks I could run up them (esp if I need the loo) and that's with a big old bump!
My Hb only went down from 14 to 11 approx but my iron stores went from 95 to 26 and it really affected me.
I am taking Floridax, honestly it is the best £8 you will spend, and I will definitely keep taking for a while after I give birth.

PaulaYatesbiggestFan · 09/02/2008 15:11

thankyou doup - does it affect your bowels?
