Low dose aspirin

Has anyone started taking low dose aspirin after getting their BFP without being prescribed?

I've had 2 MC & seen a lot of success stories online about how risks are low but can help sustain a pregnancy. I'm waiting on GP surgery calling me back re progesterone pessary that the early miscarriage clinic suggested. Also I am waiting on second blood test results after 1st were positive for APS - but these could be weeks yet.

Im terrified this will end in another loss as I think this is my last chance :(

Hi I am so sorry for your MC I had 5 last year and understand your pain somewhat. I started taking 75mg in November. I saw my consultant in December and he recommended 150mg which is the new suggested dose apparently. He recommends them to everyone that has had a MC before. I took it without advice, I suppose it is up to you and how you feel. Good luck X

Sorry to hear this.
I took x2 75mg aspirin a day from 12 weeks as recommended by my midwife. It wasn’t prescribed I bought it from asda or wilko. There isn’t any risk to it so there’s no harm in taking it. I have my fingers crossed everything turns out well.

So sorry to hear about your losses - I know how incredibly painful it is having experienced 2 myself last year.

Obviously it's entirely your decision as to whether you take the aspirin but the advice I was given by an obs and gynae consultant was not to take it unless there were clear indications for it. If your first blood test suggested positive for APS, can you contact the gynae consultant who ordered the test for you and let them know about your current pregnancy so they can appropriately advise you? I have heard and read that aspirin can sometimes affect implantation so I personally think it's very important to have the right information for you from a medic rather than self medicating. Although I know the fear and utter desperation can make that hard to stomach.

Keeping everything crossed for you... X

Thank you all so much for your replies & good advice. I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriages, it's so tough & I hope everyone is doing okay.

I'm still undecided on what to do, I'll be speaking to a GP tomorrow re the progesterone but I'm going to call the early pregnancy clinic as they said I will be offered an early scan, I'll see if they can get the blood results now I've had a positive test & take it from there.

Wondering what happened … I’m in the exact same position you were. I will be prescribed heparin after a scan at 6/7 weeks and I usually don’t make it that long so have just purchased aspirin and thinking of taking without midwife supervision….I just can’t wait 2-3 weeks to see if this will be another miscarriage

Hello @LethargicButAwesome hope your okay.

I called the ward I had blood tests done & they were able to tell me second test was back & negative so no need to take anything & it was probably a first positive result due to having covid a few weeks before initial test was done. So I haven't taken anything except for the progesterone pessaries daily which has gave me some comfort I'm doing something.

I understand how you feel, it's agonising not knowing how it's going to go again & I went between thinking I would just go ahead & take the aspirin what harm could it do to being too scared also. I read many success stories about taking it, would you consider asking your GP for their advice to take even just until your injections start? It may only seem like a few weeks to wait until you get your heparin injections from a BFP but I understand it's just so long & the worry is hard. Sending you a virtual hug & hoping it goes well for you.

Thanks @Pearlg for the reassurance. I rang and my results came back positive so I definitely have they autoimmune condition that will require blood thinners.

also rather annoyingly I have been given progesterone pess but was told by consultant I can only start them once confirmation has been received. On mumsnet loads of people seem to start then straight after a bfp so I feel like a sitting duck, I’ve had 4 losses (all early) as I think I struggle to implant.

have a gp appointment today but it’s with one of them drs you just know isn’t going to get much done.

That’s confirmation if location at a 6 week scan….I’m 3w and 4DS us atm the moment 😐
