Hey, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I’m feeling tired, stressed and hormonal, so please only share your story if it is a positive one. I’m usually pretty resilient and rational but it’s been a tough couple of weeks and it’s starting to get to me.

I’m 24 weeks pregnant with my second baby (first was a straightforward pregnancy and vaginal birth) and I’ve had five instances of bleeding in the past two weeks. It’s fresh red blood, sometimes with small clots, and every time it happens I phone triage and then have to go to the hospital for a cervical check and blood tests (I’m rhesus negative as well). Twice they’ve just kept me for a few hours, once I was kept overnight, and twice now I’ve been kept in for two nights.

My placenta is anterior high. Cervix is closed and looks healthy from the outside. The bleeding is coming from inside my uterus but they can’t offer much more of an explanation than that.

They’ve said the edge of the placenta might have lifted away slightly from the uterus and be causing the bleeding. I got myself into a panic earlier today wondering how likely this is to lead to placental abruption, which is obviously dangerous.

I'm trying to remind myself that statistically that's a small risk, but if anyone had recurrent bleeding at this stage of pregnancy and everything turned out fine, I’d love to hear from you. Thank you.

That’s so strange – it’s the opposite to what I was told, you’re right. They theorised that the edge of the placenta had lifted slightly away from the uterus, and apparently you can’t see that on a scan so there’s no way to confirm it. How far along are you? I was about 22 weeks when it started for me. Fingers crossed it’s stopped for you anyway.

Sorry didn’t see this reply. It started at 17 weeks and continued for about 4 days. I’m really hoping that it doesn’t happen again but no idea if it will or not as I don’t know what was causing it!

@slightlyanxious23 so glad to hear baby is fine and congratulations.

I'm 23 weeks and have started bleeding too and it eases off quickly and stops within few hours. Had check and cervix closed and they couldn't offer an explanation either. They took swab but didn't take any bloods.

Hi, @CoconutGirI – sorry I didn't see your post. I hope everything worked out okay for you.

Just reading this thread. I am currently 17 weeks pregnant and experienced the exact same! I am resus negative too , they have told me the baby could make it or unfortunately we could loose it which is so scary! Ive been spotting from 6 weeks and was put on progesterone pesseries but the bleeding got worse around 15 weeks and is still heavy at 17. It has eased but the pains are shocking. I am scared I am going to loose my baby but this thread has given me hope!

Hey this thread has helped reassure me a bit, I could have written OP's exact post. Anyone else going through this? It feels like I'm spending loads of time in hospital (7 episodes over 6 weeks) and I'm rhesus negative too, so even more appointments for anti-D. I'm 23+4 and started at 17 weeks. Very worrying, my first pregnancy and I'm so scared about baby arriving too soon.

I hope things are going well for you. Just found this update as I posted when I was pregnant and wanted to reassure you that everything was ok for me despite all the bleeding and never finding a cause for it. Baby is now just over 2. Hope that helps
