Hi, sorry, desperately looking for help and advice. For the last 4 or so weeks I've been drinking cold pressed juices. Celery, pomegranate, and mixed fruits but I just read its bad during pregnancy and can cause miscarriages. Anyone have any insights or advice. Thanks in advance

Stick to the NHS guidelines during pregnancy and you will be fine, nothing about those drinks on the website x

Please don't panic, they just say this because cold pressed juice isn't pasteurised, so if the fruit contained any bacteria it wouldn't be killed during the juicing process and could give you a bad stomach, which would be bad for you and baby. Are you making your own or buying it? If you're making it yourself, you're best to store in the fridge and drink it within 12 hours so bacteria can't grow. If you're buying shop-bought, you'd probably be safer sticking to pasteurised juices just to be safe. It's very unlikely to make you ill though!

Thank you both. It's shop bought from whole foods. It lasts for around 30 or so days so I'm wondering what process its been through. I've tried contacting the brand. Do you think if I froze it or heated it and then cooled it would be OK. Or even if I just heated and drank it warm. Thanks for your help

@llyh I wouldn't try heating it, it probably wouldn't be very nice! If it lasts 30 days it sounds like it's been pasteurised. I would just carry on drinking it tbh, there's no official advice that states it should be avoided during pregnancy. The extra vitamins are probably benefitting baby and you 😊

I'm glad I've spotted this thread as I've also been drinking lots of cold pressed juice and had no idea it could be bad in pregnancy. I'll just stop drinking it and hope it hasn't done any harm 😬 thanks for the heads up op

Im so glad I found this thread, I love apple, mint and ginger cold pressed juice and couldn’t understand why I was reading some articles about it being unsafe! Generallly speaking do we just follow what the nhs website says? I’m also having a toastie that has some chorizo slices in it and I’ve read conflicting things on this too! 5 weeks 3 days pregnant, first time with our little ivf baby 💚

@Twinklebell7 Yes, stick to the advice on the NHS website - even a lot of that is very cautious so you can use your own common sense. Chorizo is fine if it's cooked. My golden rule is, if in doubt, stick it on a pizza and it's fine. 😂

@CluelessInLondon haha I love this advice 🍕
