How quickly did you lose baby weight?

Ok so I know there's no rush to lose baby weight and all that. But I am the bridesmaid for my brothers wedding one month after my baby is due. I'm wondering how much weight people typically lost within this time frame after giving birth as I need to make sure the dress I order is ok.

I know it will be different for everyone but want to gage a rough idea of how long it takes on average before commuting to a size 🙈

The general guide is it takes 9 months to put on, expect 9 months to come off. Of course some people are back in their skinny jeans within weeks but it’s not the norm. With my first I put on 2 stone and couldn’t lose it. With my second I never put on any weight at all during pregnancy as I was very active and eating healthy. (Lockdown baby though so once I’d finished work the weight crept on). You could be bleeding up to 6 weeks after birth and depending on how the birth goes and whether it’s a c section, plus any complications that can arise afterwards I would make sure you have something comfortable and not be worrying about losing weight.

@Twoinapod thanks for the advice. I was size 10-12 before pregnancy and I've tried a larger dress on which I think should fit fine after pregnancy. I'm thinking maybe just go bigger and can always have it altered. I just feel really awkward as the bride is keen on getting the dresses and I don't want to waste their money or end up with a dress that doesn't fit in the end. It's just a nightmare!

Praying baby isn't 2 weeks late leaving me with just 2 weeks to try and slim down a bit 😂

You’ll probably lose the baby weight plus maybe a few pounds extra.

for me that was about 6kg which is bang on a average if you Google it. 4kg less the next day, the other 2 (probably water loss that was stored during pregnancy) in the next few days.

You’ll look pretty much as you do now, except without a big bump, just a small one.

if I were you I wouldn’t plan to lose any more than that, a month is too little time.

if you know how much you weighed before the pregnancy, see how much you are now, deduct the baby weight (about 13 pounds or 6kg). You might lose 1 pound per week after, that’s what’s recommended anyway. Based on that you can calculate if you’ll still fit in your old size.

But you’ll be sleep deprived and exhausted for the wedding. Don’t put additional pressure on.

for me the first 2 months were like a black hole of exhaustion.

Size 10-12 pre-pregnancy, put on about 18lbs in pregnancy. Lost 14lbs immediately (baby/placenta/fluid etc). The other 4lbs disappeared over the next two weeks, so I was exactly the same as I started. I ate very healthily immediately after birth though because I was determined not to get constipated! 😆

Everyone is so different though. If the dress is easy to take in I would go one size bigger than you're previous size. Better too big than too small!

It’s not just the weight but also your shape may be different and the bump takes awhile to do down so pick a dress that will still be flattering if you have a bit of a bump. I weighed less than I did before pregnancy as soon as I gave birth (due to having GD and not being able to eat sugar) but there was no way any of my old clothes would fit and things that were snug around the waist like my old jeans still don’t fit at 7 months post-partum.
