Stretch but no sweep

Hi, looking for advice because I'm very confused.

I'm currently 38 + 2 and had a "stretch and sweep" today. Expect it was just a stretch and no sweep. To be graphic the midwife said she could only get half way uo my cervix and couldn't get to the babies head. So the bottom of my cervix is 1/2cm but yeah she couldn't do the sweep. Do I call this unsuccessful and assume nothing will happen? I did ask questions but I'm also currently being made redundant at work so my attention to detail isn't on point at the minute.

Also has anyone else experienced this and what happened after?

Thanks :)

@Mullroii as far as I am aware you can only have a sweep of your cervix is essentially ready to receive one and has turned / moved to the right position....so perhaps yours just is not ready yet at 38+2....

I think even whilst it might not push you into labour, the stretch alone may dilate you more and help your cervix on a bit which is good. X
