Leaking nipples

Has anyone had similar or knows what could be happening?

Basically I done pregnancy tests 5 days ago and they were positive, they've gone extremely faint (new tests) but I've started leaking what looks like colostrum from both nipples (I have a 1 year old so familiar with breastfeeding) however I only breastfed for 3 months and haven't produced anything since, until today. Someone give me some advice please

Colostrum isnt produced until your well into your 2nd trimester. Im 19 weeks on sunday and as much as i may be producing colostrum i have not had any leaking of any sorts yet.

For that early in pregnancy i would get it checked out because whatever it is, regardless of brestfeeding previously, for sure isnt colostrum.

I think you misread, I said it looks like colostrum. Not saying it's definitely colostrum, just that it's the same colour and it's sticky like my colostrum was

I 100% produced something at 5 weeks i was like what is this???
it went after about a week but at 30 weeks is pouring away with any swuash or squeeze

Sorry update! I went to my gp, I'm currently miscarrying but she's concerned about the lactating so having bloods done next week!

@J1290 did you ever get that checked out when it happened at 5 weeks? Did it stop and then start back up as you got later in pregnancy? At 30 weeks i am not concerned about the leaking as a little earlier (about 25 and onwards) some complain of leaking colostrum and then at 35 some women start trying to harvest and store their colostrum for when baby arrives but at 5 weeks that seems like a hormonal issues that i would get checked out as pregnancy can do all kinds of crazy stuff to our bodies!

@Jjones123 I am really sorry to hear you are miscarrying and i really hope this doesnt sound insensitive however at least it is a early miscarriage as opposed to it happening later down the line where it wouldnt pass so easily. I was thinking a pregnancy test line getting fainter as time goes on didnt sound promising however i didnt want to say that because i have heard of some people actually having a normal pregnancy continue on after this and sometimes it can be the accuracy of the test etc.. so too many factors to make you feel worried so early on!

get yourself a heating pack, bed rest and i hope it doesn’t last too long and your body can get back to normal in no time, its really unfortunate this has happened but hopefully in no time you will be having your rainbow baby (some conceive surprisingly quick after a miscarriage), but by all means take the time you need before trying again.

Hey, I get what you mean! Thank you for your message, I have a daughter and she is my whole world! So at least I know I can have kids, that's the main thing🥰

My doctors is doing tests currently as she thinks I could have a pituitary gland tumor, because I've had loads of other symptoms aswell as lactating. Will try to keep the post updated

@Jjones123 Im glad your having bloods done and hopefully will get results soon.. You know i was thinking about a tumor also, the only reason was because my aunt had my cousin around the same time as i was born (maybe a few months after) and when he got to about 3 or 4 she went shopping with my mum and mentioned her boobs still leaking! I dont think she even breastfed her son at that time so it really stood out that not only was she leaking but 3-4 yrs later she was “still” leaking! The stuff that was coming out, unlike you wasnt sticky or yellow, it apparently had a blue hue so my mum prompted her to get it checked asap.. It turned out she had a brain Tumor!

apparently those things are telltale signs of tumors (which i never knew but i was young went i found this out). I dont know the course of action they needed to take after that however i know it was non cancerous and no sort of chemo or radiotherapy was ever needed. She has never officially spoken to us “kids” about it before so i never brought it up but i just know her story as my family talk too much!

hopefully of yours does turn out to be a tumor, it is something that can be easily resolved and since it only just started hopefully it is something that can be quickly sorted as opposed to a more longer term battle!

Im happy to hear you have a daughter that is your world so you can at least have that confidence of future success.

This pregnancy is my first and I wish i knew about the extent of anxiety of loss before getting pregnant so i could prepare! You mums out there have always put on a brave face in pregnancy it made me totally oblivious this feeling was even a thing!

please do keep me posted! I would love to know your okay and hopefully will have your second bundle of joy soon!

Jjones123 · 11/02/2023 22:25

Oh blimey! Mine looks like colostrum so like a clear/slight yellow tinge and sticky just like colostrum but I showed the doctor and she ordered bloods straight away. I've also been having non stop headaches, EXTREME tiredness, peeing soooo much, emotional, nauseous, not much of an appetite.
My bloods aren't until Friday unfortunately, but I will defo update you.

Glad it wasn't cancerous, I was told the type of tumor it would be if I did have 1 is typically not cancerous but she obviously couldn't say for sure, she said the next stage would be mri!

Thank you so much! How far along are you? X

I dont know what real life colostrum looks like yet 🤣🤦🏽‍♀️. Havent had that experience but didnt know it was sticky, just that it’s yellow lol.

The symptoms you have could also be because of the pregnancy too? I had these symptoms very early on and it went away (minus boob pain) after about a month or two. Im wondering once your HCG levels get low enough if the symptoms will improve (but if not then it must be related to what is going on atm).

well thats a sigh of relief that hopefully she is correct and the normal treatment can be followed. I have had a few MRI’s they are not bad but a bit claustrophobic and noisy!

Im 19 weeks in a few hrs (sunday) so in my 5th month now, we found out we are having a little boy this week and he isnt due until July 9th or around then so not long left at all now!

Thought I'd update! I had my blood results back and my prolactin is very high so I've been referred to endocrinology x

OP posts:
Tropicaliyes · 20/02/2023 19:06

What does that indicate apart from the fact your lactating? Or will you only fond out once you see the endocrinologist?

Jjones123 · 20/02/2023 19:07

She's pretty confident that I have a pituitary gland tumor but apparently the endocrinologist will refer me for a scan to see how large the tumor is and best treatment options x

J1290 · 20/02/2023 19:08

No never got it checked out. Boobs got bigger very quickly and have high preggo hormones which why i get bad HG and migraines.
All settled and currently 32 weeks and yes colostrum is back. Breastfed well with prev child.
And got pregnant first month of trying with both babies so think hormones seem ok with everything else

Tropicaliyes · 20/02/2023 19:10

@J1290 oh thats at least good news! At least it indicated nothing bad in your case!

@Jjones123 if that is the case see if you can harvest your remaining eggs for future use, that way you still have a chance later on.

No problem, i really wish you all the best! Im hoping to hear later on that it isnt as bad and even if it is a tumor, it isnt too taxing on your health to sort out. Sending positive vibes your way and im always here for you hun Xx

Hi, @Jjones123 any update on this? I'm having a similar experience and I stopped breastfeeding 9 months ago. I'm currently TTC so thought I could be having a weird symptom but now I'm not sure!
