Fragmin blood thinners

So I am due to take fragmin from 28 wks as my risk of blood clots are higher due to age, bmi and this being baby number 4

BUT, I am now panicking that this will effect my labour…..

Will I have to be monitored more closely and run the risk on not being able to give birth in the birthing unit and I’m panicking of haemorrhaging during birth

Anyone been in the same position and offer any advice / share their story?

Thank you

Hello @MrsC2023. I am 38 weeks tomorrow and have been on fragmin from week 29. I had the same worries and spoke to my consultant. They have advised that if I go into spontaneous labour I can’t have any spinal pain relief and would need a general if I had to go for a c section if I have injected it up to 24 hours before. I am booked in for an induction so we can control all of the meds I’m on and hopefully have a good birth experience.

I would say it can sting when you do it and I’ve found that injecting it when you’re sat down and then applying pressure for about 10 minutes after really helps reduce the stinging and any bruising. 😄

Speak to your midwife or consultant and they can put your mind at ease about it.
