Strep B test

just before my first pregnancy I got a strep B diagnosis. And the midwife put me on an antibiotic drip during labour, just in case.

now with my second pregnancy is there a way to get a private strep b test? In uk?

I will raise this with my midwife and consultant when I see them next but I’m concerned they won’t give me one through nhs. I only have a few weeks left until delivery.

www.groupbstreptest.co.uk/order-form/

I’ve had one from them for my previous two pregnancies and will be ordering in the next couple of weeks for this one.

It’s only £37.50 which I happily pay for peace of mind!

I’m surprised more people aren’t told about it. I told a friend and she did one then found out that she had it and like you was on antibiotics during labour.

I used this too, definitely worth it in my opinion. Got my results back last week which were negative.

Sometimes they will swab you on the NHS at 36 weeks pregnant if you’ve previously had strep b, so maybe worth an ask

Thanks, yes I have another app soon and I will ask. If not I’ll buy it.

I had it for my first too (private test). For this pregnancy I’ve seen several midwives and one specialist consultant and they’ve all said that I can have a strep b test on the NHS, think around 36 weeks. They made it sound routine, not Trust specific.

I had gbs in my 2nd pregnancy.
For my 3rd, I wasn't tested but was treated as if I had it and given antibiotics in labour.
For my 4th, they tested me at 36 weeks I think it was.

This time they're treating me as if I have it again and giving antibiotics in labour. They have also tested already, and will test again. My trust is part of a gbs trial apparently, so hopefully it'll become the norm throughout x

The consultant told me today I can request it the next time I see the midwife.

im seeing her at 37 weeks which I think it’s kind of late. So I’ll call the midwife dep at my hospital next week, when I’m 35 weeks, and tell them what the consultant said.
