Could I be in labour?

I’m 37 weeks pregnant and I’m not sure whether I’m having contractions or not.

DP and I were sat on the sofa earlier watching a film and I couldn’t get comfortable for the life of me and kept feeling crampy in my lower back, thought it was just how I was sat. Went to bed and had the most intense painful lower back pain, I had to sit up and lean forward and take deep breaths until it went. It was a really sharp cramping that took my breath away, a bit like what my period pains typically feel like but sudden.

That was about 22:30, since then I’ve had the same lower back cramping pain coming and going at irregular intervals, I started noting it down on my phone just to keep track. The first gap was 22 minutes; then 27; then 34, so they have got further apart. I’ve also started with a banging headache.

I would be happy to sit it and wait to see if they get more regular, but I have a c section planned for when I’m 39 weeks, and I was told to phone my birth centre if I think I’m in labour before then. If they were contractions would the gaps between them not get closer together?

Not sure whether I should phone the birth centre or not so any advice is welcome

Agree with PP, best to call maternity unit.. I had the same at 37 weeks, bloody show and loosing mucus plug at 38 weeks... Now nearly 39 weeks so still not in labour.. Everyones experience is different, how are u feeling now?

I phoned the maternity unit and they said if I had any other symptoms, eg mucus plug or waters breaking to come in. No sign of either but I’ve had these period like pains continuously now since last night, I’ve also thrown up :(

Seems like this could go on for a while!

I hope it doesn't go on for long it can be frustrating.. Ive accepted that its early stages of labour and can be another week before the baby arrives.. Its helped to just get on with stuff as waiting for it to progress waa driving me insane
