16w - coming off progesterone

I was put on progesterone just after 7w, due to a previous MC and having spotting in both pregnancies.

I was told to take it until 16 weeks, which will be this coming Friday. I'm so scared of stopping it though. Anyone else been on progesterone? All been fine when you've come off it? I know it'll be fine I'm just worrying myself, especially with having a MC in the last pregnancy, it takes all the enjoyment away. I believe the placenta takes over making the progesterone anyway, or something along those lines?

Also as a side question, I actually have enough pessaries to last me until 16+2 (I'm on two a day). Should I continue taking it those extra couple of days, stop bang on 16w, or for my last 4 pessaries shall I wean it down to one a day from the 16 week point?

I was put on progesterone from 1dpo-12 weeks, and at 12 weeks I began to wean off it - I could have come straight off it but I was a bit nervous! I did 1 week on 1 pessary a day (was previously on 2) and currently doing 1 week on 1 every other day before I go cold turkey. I was actually advised I could come straight off them, that the placenta is doing its job by now etc but I just felt more comfortable slowly reducing. I haven’t had any adverse affects so far and I had a scan a week ago which looked great. Good luck!

I was on progesterone after 3 miscarriages in a row. I stopped taking mine at 16 weeks and felt exactly the same as you. I spoke to the midwife and she assured me there was no harm in stopping taking it at 12 weeks never mind 16. I'm currently 32 weeks and so far everything is looking good.

I was on Progesterone for the exact same reasons as you OP, given it at 6 weeks and told to take until 16. I think it’s perfectly safe to stop bang on 16 but I weaned off one a day for the last few, I don’t know why it made me feel slightly less anxious about coming off. I’m currently 36+1 and everything okay since coming off 😊

I was on progesterone due to having IVF. Had lubion injection daily which i came off at 13 weeks, and two cyclogest pessaries daily which I stretched to 14 weeks. After coming off I got a private progesterone test about a week later, and the result was 1554! Normal levels are 80-260 in and trimester so that was waaay over. The placenta shoukd be doing the work now but you can always get a finger prick postal test if worried from places like medichecks. Dr said it isn't worrying mines that high thankfully as I panicked!
