Folic acid after week 12?

Hi everyone, I'm 13 weeks pregnant and I recently stopped taking my folic acid as I read there was no need to keep taking them, but a few people called me crazy and told me to keep taking them! I usually took pregnacare that had folic acid + all relevant vitamins, should I keep taking it? I thought folic acid was pointless past 12 weeks so I tried to look for pregnancy vitamins without folic acid but no luck, if I continued to take my folic acid + vitamins (pregnacare) would it harm my baby now that I'm past 12 weeks? TIA X

It’s absolutely fine to take all throughout. Pregnacare are designed to be taken throughout the whole pregnancy. Helps make sure you’re getting all the right vitamins. It won’t harm your baby at all

I continued taking vitamin d and folic acid daily until about 25 weeks, I’m 27weeks now and I take them every 1-3 days. I occasionally forget.

It’s up to you really. In the winter (assuming your in winter) it’s advised to take vitamin d because we don’t tend to get enough sunlight between October-March.

The tablets will tell you in info that it’s fine to take them throughout pregnancy.

I took seperate folic acid and vitamin d up to 12 weeks, then swapped to pregnacare after that! It says safe through all pregnancy so thought best to take something xx

@newmummie all the tubes are developed at 12 weeks so there is zero need to take folic acid after 12 weeks. Beyond this point, whilst marketing suggests continuing to take something like pregnacare, my private doctor said you only need vitamin d and if your iron level are low, an iron supplement. I had issues with nausea and continued to 16 weeks with pregnacare but he said there is absolutely no need to continue... but do take Vit d (we all should take this daily in the UK).
