It's my first baby, and I'm at 39 weeks and 6 days. I'm probably being really stupid, but I have no idea if I'm starting labour or not. I had a cervical sweep almost 3 days ago, and ever since I keep starting and stopping with mildly painful contractions. Like, I'll have them for five hours, then they will stop completely for ten hours, then start up again. My waters haven't broken. I've been spotting since the sweep, though it's tapering off now. My pelvic pain has now gotten so bad that walking is near impossible. I've got the runs, too. I called MAC 2 days ago when the contractions started, and they said get back to them when the contractions are consistent and horribly painful. I texted my midwife 10 hours ago to ask what's happening and she hasn't replied. It's been nearly 3 days of this, and it's starting to really freak me out. Has anyone been through anything similar?

Call the delivery unit and ask for advice

It can be normal to have stop start like your having, my SIL was the same for 10 days before baby decided it was time. If your concerned though definitely call your maternity unit back for advice.

I'm the same as you right now!

I rang the hospital yesterday and they said paracetamol, baths etc until things progress further or if waters break....

It's scary as I don't know what to expect and when, same as you!

Good luck Flowers
