8 pounds weight gain at 20 weeks, too little?

This is my second pregnancy, with my first I didn't take notice of my weight but probably gained quite a bit through my chocolate addiction whoops!

I'm 20 weeks now with 2nd and gained 8 pounds so far - my bump is rather small, does this seem like enough?

Sounds fine OP. I am 40w4d (patiently waiting for little one to arrive!!) and have put on less than a stone all pregnancy. I lost weight in first trimester and only really started gaining in third trimester.

Have you had your 20w scan yet?
How is your diet?

If you have concerns talk to your midwife. I mentioned I’d lost weight and they weren’t concerned.

Have you had your 20 week scan yet? That will give you the best indication of baby’s size.

England doesn’t have guidance for minimum maternal weight gain. I had an IUGR baby and also gained very little weight myself. My feral medicine consultant wasn’t at all concerned by my own (lack of) weight gain.

Fetal medicine, not feral… 😁

I didnt gain any weight until 24 weeks first time round, I was quite concerned as I'm slim so thought surely I should have been putting it on, but no one was worried and baby turned out fine. No idea what I've put on this pregnancy, I'm measuring small at the bottom of the chart though and have been sent for growth scans, but baby is measuring around 25th percentile, similar to where my daughter was, so I assume I just carry quite small! Hope all goes well.

I wouldn't have thought this was a concern but do check with your midwife if you are concerned. I’m 29 weeks and I’ve gained around 13lb. My Dr is happy with this.

I only put on about 20lb during my first pregnancy and DS was born weighing 7lb 12oz. Most of my gain was in the third trimester too.

I'm 30+5 and have put on less than 2lb so far, the midwife told me not to worry and to stop weighing myself! Have quite a large bump so am hopeful baby has just been using up my fat reserves 😂

With my first I put on about 3 stone. With my second I didn’t put on a lb until the last 2 weeks (also the time I finished work so was doing a lot less) midwife said it was absolutely fine, they only worry about significant loss or gain.
