Tightenings across top of bump? 40w3d

I am currently 40w3d and on edge waiting for labour to begin! I’ve not had any signs but felt quite sick today (only briefly).

For the last hour I’ve been getting what I think are tightening across the top of my bump (belly button up). I can’t tell if it is baby moving or if it’s tightenings. Feels like a wave from one side to the other. It is quite constant and different to any baby movements I’ve felt before. Could this be an early sign of labour?!

Oh that's exciting! That's brought back all sorts of memories for me. All you can do is make sure everything is ready if you are going to hospital, petrol in the car, bags packed etc. Then put your feet up, cross your fingers and wait!

Oooh! I love these threads as I always hope for a baby post a day or two later 😉 my early contractions were lower down like period pains - not at the top - braxton hicks maybe??

Sounds like labour !

TheChosenTwo · 31/01/2023 22:31

Well you’re full term so it’ll be happening soon! All these little things are your body’s hormones getting ready. Make sure you’re prepared (I packed my hospital bag when in labour - twice out of the three times 😂), transport ready and relax for a bit, have a bath unless you’ve lost the mucus plug thingy, not sure you should have a bath after that although don’t really know why if people have water baths so often…

Sounds like early contractions. Take paracetamol and try to get some sleep, you might have a hard days work tomorrow:

Oooh how exiting!! When I went into labour it started at 3am, I got up to go to the toilet and I felt really ill and I thought to myself “eugh I hope I haven’t eaten something off”. I didn’t get sick or anything but I just felt really sick, I got back into bed and just as I drifted off my waters broke! But anyway the feeling sick in your post makes me think this baby is coming woo hoo best of luck!

melchim · 31/01/2023 23:02

Yes it does sound like an early sign of labour, though it's anyone's guess as to how early!

Yup sounds like Labor, how exciting, get some rest if you can. Sending love and prayers for a good birth xx

Thanks for all your replies. Unfortunately nothing further today so it wasn’t the start of labour ☹️

I had these on and off for a few days. Started on the Wednesday, not painful just tight. Early afternoon on the Friday they started to get more intense, and she was born 8.55pm on the Friday night. So I’d say things are happening but it might take a few days still

Keep an eye and see if they come back tonight! For some reason they often come back at night and can do that on and off for some nights before it properly kicks off
