Posting for a friend, she is 50, no period since November, negative pregnancy test, rounded stomach, but she is convinced she is pregnant. I have suggested multiple times to call doctor if she is so sure but hasn't done as yet . What are the chances of her being right? I don't know why she hasn't contacted the doctor just says she will soon

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Very low. But I'd advise her to see her GP. Ovarian cancer can present like that.

Bluelightbaby · 28/01/2023 17:50

Highly unlikely to have a negative test and be far enough along to have a bump. I’d get her to make a GP appt asap as could be something more sinister

RandomMess · 28/01/2023 17:58

Sad far more likely to be cancer than pregnancy I would have thought.

This. She needs a referral urgently. Once someone with Ovarian cancer is at the enlarged stomach phase they're probably at stage 3 or 4. It's known as the silent cancer.

Or a fibroid as mine is presenting like 16 weeks gestation. Either way she needs it looking at. I suspect she is frightened and allowing herself to believe it's a pregnancy.

LaLuz7 · 28/01/2023 18:21

She needs a doctor ASAP. How can she be so blaze about it? If it's pregnancy it needs to be monitored. If it's not, it could be cancer or fibroids.

Could be something to do with the menopause, could be a cyst or r
Tumour ... she needs to see a doctor to rule out scary things

2022again · 28/01/2023 19:12

Denial is sadly really common with people experiencing cancer red flags although it’s just as likely to be a more benign cause such as a cyst…have you expressed to her that she needs to get cancer excluded? For her to be sure she’s pregnant but not wanting to get it confirmed by the GP is a bit of a sign that deep down she’s worried about the outcome.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 28/01/2023 19:15

Do you think she genuinely believes it? Or is it denial?
It really doesn’t sound like a pregnancy. Like others say could be something that needs seeing to urgently. Could be something less scary that could be resolved. Either way she needs to see GP.

allgoodthings84 · 28/01/2023 19:39

I would say at 50 and still having negative tests when she’s not had a period since November I would say it’s not pregnancy. She really needs to see her GP to rule out anything serious.

Dogsandbabies · 28/01/2023 20:02

I am 15 weeks. Last period was in October. I still test positive on pregnancy tests.

I would be really worried in her shoes. Excessive bloating can be a due to many reasons and some are really worrying like cancer.

Mermaidpool · 28/01/2023 23:46

Thank you all, I hadn't considered cancer I'll be honest. I assumed menopause but could not understand why she is reluctant to see gp. I will speak to her again and try to find out if she is worried about other symptoms
