hello all i am 6 weeks pregnant with my second child .
after 8 months of trying with no luck i was put on clomid and got pregnant

now my doc is sending me tomorrow for an early scan to see if everthing is ok or if there is more than 1 in there .

i am a bit nervous as i dont think they will be able to see anything.

also will it be a trans vag scan and would that not cause a misscarrage???

No, vaginal scans will not cause a miscarriage! Its the only way to do early scans and very common.

I had one at 5 weeks because of suspected ectopic (bad pains at one side). All I could see on the scan was a tiny white dot but it was done to check embryo in right place (it was!). No heartbeat visible so had to go back at 7 weeks +. Luckily heartbeat was there. DD now a strapping 7 year old!

Good luck.

was it sore???

I had an internal scan at 6 weeks and it didn't feel sore and wasn't really uncomfortable either. Good luck

sweetheart · 06/02/2008 14:42

I also had an internal scan at 6 weeks. There is nothing to worry about - it's not uncomfortable.

You won't be able to see much at all - usually they look for a yolk sac which shows everything is healthy at the stage. There will probably not be a hearbeat either so don't worry if there isn't.

spugs · 06/02/2008 14:45

internal scans are fine, they dont hurt so try not to worry.

laughalot · 06/02/2008 14:47

I had a 6 week scan with both my children it dident hurt and with both it was just like a white dot on the screen. Good luck

Blocky · 06/02/2008 15:00

Had a 6 week scan after suspected ectopic - didn't hurt and could see a white dot blinking, which the radiographer said was the heartbeat. Very emotional!

Mumblesmummy · 06/02/2008 17:46

I had one at 6+4 and could see a little peanut with a flashing heartbeat. Some don't see a heartbeat til 7 weeks though.

SnappyLaGore · 06/02/2008 17:47

nota lot, no.

kidney bean in my case.

trans vag scan wont cause miscarriage or they wouldnt do them! is only way theyll see anything at that stage. doesnt hurt or owt. good luck.

sambrads · 06/02/2008 20:43

thank you everyone for your advice

i will try and relax and if the heartbeat is ment to be seen then it will

I had one at 6.5weeks and saw a tiny dot with a flashing heartbeat.

It doesn't hurt, also you are more taken with seeing your little bean than anything else!!

Good luck.

lily333 · 06/02/2008 20:51

hello! had 1st one at 5 weeks, think it was the yolk sac scan... then bigger blob and sac at 6 weeks, and then quite a lot bigger flashing heart at 7 wks - DS now 20mths . Tbh I found them much easier than the external ultrasounds -no gulping of gallons of water followed by sloshing-about discomfort whilst I tried not to wee myself!!!

notmyrtle · 06/02/2008 20:51

Gestational sac, yolk sac & fetal pole, we didn't see the HB until the next scan which was at 6w3 days (and the dildocam is fine, not painful & doesn't go anywhere near your cervix).

sambrads · 06/02/2008 20:54

oh thats brill i love hearing all your stories !!!

so they would see if there is more than 1 sac i n there but maybe no heart beat ??

I had a sacn at 6wks and looked the same as many of the others described and saw flickering heartbeat. It was am abdominal scan though, not transvaginal. Was glad i didnt have to get my knickers off!

SarahHarris · 06/02/2008 22:01

I had a 8 week internal scan with my dd, absolutley no pain just an amazing experience.

We saw a heartbeat but slightly more further on than yourself so please don't worry if they don't find one. Some do some don't, it does not mean there is anything to worry about.

We saw a monkey nut sort of shape.

Then we had a 12 week scan and the difference is unbelieveable. From a monkey nut in 4 weeks comes a really looking baby.

Good luck.

pmac · 08/02/2008 18:07

hello

i had an early trans vag scan at 5 weeks as a result of bleeding. they told me that at during early pregnancy, you can see more with a transvag scan. you'll be able to see what they call the 'yolk sac' and what appears to be a flashing light, which is the baby's heart beat. good luck!

sambrads · 09/02/2008 13:36

hello ladies went for my scan and they said i was 6 weeks 3 days and i seen the heart beat oh it was so lovely

I was lucky and had a non internal scan at 6 weeks. Our little one was only 3mm long so although it was not much it was still amazing to us. Good Luck
