Recommendations for a newborn mattress

Finished putting crib up today and was looking for mattress recommendations?

The crib is 140x70 but I wasn't sure about height mattress should be for a newborn, or what kind of mattress to buy. I've looked at buying advice online but get slightly overwhelmed and worry I get one that's unsuitable for baby.

Anyone that could help would be much appreciated! Thank you Grin

Ikea cot mattresses are really good value and comfy into the toddler bed years, my kids both slept well on theirs so can’t think of a better endorsement! DS’s was pocket sprung and about £100 (only one in
stock during the pandemic), can’t remember which one his sister had. Really it doesn’t matter that much though- mattresses for babies need to be firm but since 140x70 is standard cot bed size anything from a major retailer will be suitable. Get at least 2 waterproof mattress protectors and 3 sheets though!

Ikea mattress. We just have a foam one (ironically cost more than the actual Ikea cot...which we side-carred onto our bed).

No need for a crazy expensive one - they might not sleep on it anyway! 😱😂

Hi @JessiLF thanks for your post! If you're still looking, you might find our round-up of the best cot mattresses useful - it's based on recommendations from Mumsnetters and has lots of info on how to choose the best one for you. If you have any thoughts or feedback on the round-up, let us know🌻

If you have the budget I would recommend one from Little Green Sheep (we were very lucky as ours was a gift) its double sided so has a firm side for newborn/baby and then a softer side for when they're older. All natural materials, and whilst they have standard sizes you can also order bespoke dimensions
