Telling a friend that's TTC you're pregnant?

One of my best friends has been TTC for nearly a year but hasn't had any luck.

I've tested positive this morning; having only tried properly for one month (this will be our second DC). It's still early days and you never know how things are going to pan out.

I'm due to catch up with her in a couple of weeks. If I don't drink it will be very obvious (our catch ups revolve around several glasses of wine).

I don't know how best to approach this with her.

Do I text her in advance to tell her (I completely understand if she needs some time/break away from me), do I go and use the antibiotics line or something else?

Don't do antibiotics line, she'll know and probably be more hurt you haven't just said, I'd drop her a message myself

Text in advance, closer to the meet up time

9thFloorNightmare · 24/01/2023 11:46

suggest you have coffee and cake instead because you are pregnant

RedPandaFluff · 24/01/2023 11:49

Agree that letting her know in advance is best, @Bunny2021 - let her have time to process her own inevitable emotions about it and then put her brave face on to congratulate you in person.

And . . . congratulations!

Congratulations OP that’s lovely news.

it’s lovely you are being thoughtful as to your friend’s situation. I struggled to conceive and have recently suffered a pregnancy bereavement. If I was your friend I would appreciate you letting me know via a text or a call before meeting face to face. I would be absolutely delighted for you but reminded of my own sadness so a bit of time to process and prepare would be really appreciated.

However only tell your friend when you feel you are ready to share your news. Like others have suggested maybe change the meet up to a coffee and cake to avoid having to roll out the antibiotics line that everyone knows means you’re pregnant!

Just tell her but absolutely don't mention you have only been trying for a month.

Moonlightdust · 24/01/2023 12:07

Congratulations!

She doesn’t need to know how long you were trying OP. If she’s been actively TTC for a year I’m surprised all your catch ups have involved wine!

Definitely text her beforehand to let her process if she needs to. I had a rough year with two miscarriages and was grateful to friends that did this, even though I had only happiness for them.

Please don't go down the antibiotics line!

squirrelnutkins1 · 24/01/2023 13:13

Def message first, give her chance to process the news.
Congrats Smile

Text in advance. If you can, don't say you've only tried for a month.

KentishTown83 · 24/01/2023 13:24

Text her

Joram86 · 24/01/2023 13:25

I had the same situation last year, she text me saying this month wasn’t her time I had just found out that I was. I waited a couple of weeks and then text her as thought that’s how I would want to be told so could deal with it in my own way. Doing it face to face would be hard. Luckily she got pregnant a few months later 🥰🥰🥰

Lcb123 · 24/01/2023 13:28

Tell her before. But definitely don’t mention it’s happened quickly for you. I’m sympathetic to her but a years not that long really
