Hi,

currently pregnant and wondering as I’ve seen some conflicting info on here; during my booking appointment with the midwife I got bloods taken; at the time there was no specification what it was for and then 3 weeks later was told bloods were fine apart from being O Negative (which they wouldn’t have even mentioned only I asked).

I’m just wondering would I have been tested for HIV etc in those blood tests too? Nothing was ever mentioned to me and I’ve seen a lot of people saying they have to get consent and it has now only just made me start to wonder lol?

does anyone know if I would have been or do I have to specifically request it?

If anyone could answer and help put my mind at ease that would be great? I’m not against being tested I do think all pregnant women should imo, just want to know if I would have been or not without them mentioning it?

Usual booking bloods offered would be blood group and antibody screen, sickle cell, thalassaemia, haemoglobin level, HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B.

@DottyLittleRainbow thanks for replying! So even despite the midwife not mentioning what they were testing for, I would have been tested for all of the above mentioned?

Usually you're tested for HIV and lots more at your booking appointment as standard

There should have been leaflets in reception? If not all the info is here

OP, did you not ask? You seem overly concerned about what they tested your blood for, but didn't actually ask when they took it? Seems an odd thing to stress about after the event?

Summertimeflowers · 21/01/2023 21:38

@sexnotgenders i know it seems odd but I have anxiety in general and at first I just assumed I was tested for it but have since seen people say they have to gain consent first and I know I was never asked so just made me curious/anxious that I was not tested. It is something I plan on asking in my next appointment ofc but just thought I’d get an answer (and reassurance) here first.
