When do you all start buying?!

This is my 4th baby but quite big age gaps so I'm always like a first time mum 🤣 I'm 18 weeks pregnant and I don't know when the best time is to start buying 🤷‍♀️ I've just ordered some personalised dummies but that's about as far as I've got and it's just dawned on me maybe I should kinda start ordering some essentials in! When did you all start to buy?

I'm 14+5 and all I've gotten so far is a couple of onesies 😂I'm a first time mum and just thinking now about what I need, have just made my list and will probably start getting things in the next couple of months, don't want to get things too early as not alot of room to store everything

Luckymum89 · 20/01/2023 13:08

@leanneb94 yeah that's it I don't want to have loads of boxes everywhere!! I'm tempted to order his bottles and bits for the kitchen and then everytime I come to it I think well I don't need them yet 🤦‍♀️

I started about 34 weeks I think, both times.

Lcb123 · 20/01/2023 13:45

Not until I start maternity leave will get critical items. But mostly will wait until
baby here - I’m too worried to jinx it

leanneb94 · 20/01/2023 13:54

@Luckymum89Yeah I know what you mean, I think I'm going to put the money to one side over the next few months enough to get everything I need and then probably around end of May get everything in one go. Will still be a month and a half before I'm due so plenty of time to get everything in and enough time between now and then to save up and get baby room sorted. The room we're using is currently my partners gaming room so we've got to move all his stuff out into my dressing room and redecorate, but again don't see the point in doing it 6 months ahead of time

Krakenes · 20/01/2023 13:55

Around 34w

BritishDesiGirl · 20/01/2023 13:56

Not until late into the late trimester

dottyrobin · 20/01/2023 13:57

I'm 34 weeks and I started buying (online) this week.
For my previous baby I was out on a mad shopping spree the morning I was induced.
I think I might try and atleast get the car seat sorted next week.

4thonthe4th · 20/01/2023 13:59

I’m 14 weeks with my 4th and not got anything yet although I have some bits from my others saved in the loft.
Do you have space to store things you buy or will your new baby be sharing? I’ve ordered a wardrobe and drawers for our spare bedroom so I think I’ll start getting a few bits when they arrive so I have somewhere to store them. I usually start at around 20 weeks.

Jericha · 20/01/2023 14:07

I started buying the bigger bits second half of second trimester. I did most of the bulk of shopping between 26 and 32 weeks.

J1290 · 20/01/2023 14:10

From about 18 weeks? Started with the supermarket shop
picked few bits up each week
then discovered vinted and started with clothing on paydays just few bundles
found out sex qnd then bought outfits

friends have basically donated big items to me which is nice they all in the loft waiting.

sunseaandme · 20/01/2023 14:15

I think after my 20 week scan I started buying a lot more, as I was finding out gender at the scan so once I knew he was a boy I started buying everything really; like clothes/blankets/pram/nursery furniture/toys/ car seat and started decorating nursery etc. but I like to be super organised!

Luckymum89 · 20/01/2023 14:20

Oh gosh I don't think I could have the energy to buy things and sort things at 34 plus weeks 🤣 i take my hats off to u all!!! I think I'll maybe buy one big thing a month. This is my first summer baby too so I want to wait till summer clothes come in. He will be sharing a room eventually with his brother but for the first few years be in his cot in our room so I don't really have much space to store things. They may end up at my mums house 🤣

@dottyrobin you're mental 🤣 how on earth did u manage that on the morning of induction?!?!?! I think I would have a full blown panic attack 🤣

I’m 14 weeks and only bought a box of nappies and a few white baby grows I’ll probably start after my 20 week scan this is my 4th baby to and mine are all older so it’s like starting again so havnt a clue where to start think I will order pram and car seat first

CremeEggsForBreakfast · 20/01/2023 15:02

I bought a cot when I was about 6 weeks 😂 We have a small one bed flat and saw an absolute bargain of a Next2Me on FB Marketplace and snapped it up. It's in a friend's loft for now.

I'm hoping that once we start telling people properly (after 12 week scan) people will donate things to us or at least sell it on cheap.

PIL have offered to buy us a buggy but again, because we're short on room I'm very fussy (must be parent-facing and fold as small as possible) so we've started looking already but definitely not buying until later.

Overall, probably happy to wait until I'm on Mat Leave as we have no room to set anything up or store anything until the last minute really.

Luckymum89 · 20/01/2023 15:18

@Disneybaby12 it's so confusing isn't it because u have done it all before but just can't remember how u did it 🤣 I'm paying for my pram monthly so it's being delivered a month before he's due but I just want to go buy him everything now I just feel like I'm being too extreme at the minute lol

Luckymum89 · 20/01/2023 15:20

@CremeEggsForBreakfast I don't blame u at all those next2me cribs are so expensive. We are buying one and it's more expensive than our own bed 🤣 I guess it's each to their own really I just don't want to be too rushed and then have boxes of stuff everywhere. I don't think I can wait till last minute tho as I'm so panicky I need to know I have everything in advance!! Can't win lol

Nothing yet (15w soon), I think I will start after 20w scan. I will start pram hunting straightaway, as I would like to buy second hand, so probably lot of scrolling through ebay and marketplace. I'm not that bothered by clothes, nappies etc., plenty of time to buy those.

mrshenny · 20/01/2023 16:46

I'm 31 weeks now, started buying stuff about 29 weeks ish. Second pregnancy and I've kept everything from first one so it's not much to get really!

We must have a similar due date. 21/7 here. I too need to start the search for a pram! All our local baby stores have closed so need to either have a bit of a drive or have a look online.

georgarina · 20/01/2023 19:16

My hospital is by the high street so after the 20w scan usually go to Primark and get some bits!

Then start looking online for bigger baby items, as get them second-hand.

firsttimelondonmummy · 20/01/2023 21:24

I’m 18 weeks and already have a range of clothes, my cot and my pram set.
I did what felt right for me 😊
It’s also so much easier to spread the cost.
We’ve spent 2.5k already and probably will spend at least another £1000/1500.
How people do that all at once I’ll never know.

itsme432 · 20/01/2023 23:10

I'm 14 weeks.
Got bottles and a Sterlizer unit a couple weeks ago purely because it was on offer and a really good price I didn't want to miss out 🤣

Other than that my daughter has picked a few outfits because she's excited but I'm going to try and hold off buying the 'big' stuff for a while yet!
