Hi!

I'm getting married in July 2023 and just found I'm pregnant .. due September 2023.

Firstly I'm in two minds about whether to bring the wedding forward or backwards as we have paid for most things .. venue, photographer, bridesmaid dresses, my wedding dress (which has NO room for a bump) so I'd need a new dress.

Secondly which seems to be my biggest dilemma right now is that my bridesmaids are planning my hen do, which will be abroad in June 2023. They have only paid a deposit on a villa but are currently arranging flights etc.
The problem is how do we tell my bridesmaids to stop the planning without giving away that we're expecting? Im only 4 weeks and I really don't want to tell anyone until at least 2nd trimester ..

Thank you so much ladies and gents ♥️

Congratulations on the pregnancy!

If you really don't want to tell them you could say that you are aware that it's quite expensive to go abroad for a hen do and due to the cost of living crisis you think it's probably better to keep the hen do local and more low key. I would also offer to cover the cost of the deposit already paid.

Thank you sooo much!! That is definitely a great way to approach it!

Congratulations!

I am due in July 2023 and my wedding date was 12 days before my due date (now 8 days as I’m measuring ahead…) I moved my wedding back one month to June just before Christmas.

I don’t have any suggestions on the hen do but wanted to let you know it was way easier than I expected to move the wedding - I had booked everything and they all were available on the new date and moved the booking for free (with the exception of the hairdresser who charged the deposit again).

Now my only concern is the wedding dress. I’ve asked and mine can’t be altered to accommodate me so I need to try and sell it and buy a new one!

Best of luck with whatever you decide to do! x

@Natpat81 thank you for your reply, and congratulations to you too!

Does that mean you will be getting married at 8 months pregnant? I am very tempted to go ahead and do the same or bring the wedding ahead asap!

Congratulations OP!

Personally I'd bring it forward, I wouldn't want to be replanning a wedding with a newborn and worrying about how my post baby body would look.

I would have a rethink about not telling people - these are your closest friends / family and will probably guess as they'll wonder why you're changing your mind with them having paid a deposit etc.
It's wonderful you're pregnant but yes early days and you'll have a lot to squeeze into the next few months without lots of cloak and dagger stories about cost of living crises changing plans and the potential issues this might bring up!
Obvs up to you but keeping secrets can cause more stress than intended and cause a lot of unintended hurt - even for the best reasons x

knackeredmu · 19/01/2023 11:04

Just to add - I was 6 weeks pregnant at my brothers wedding - I didn't want to tell anyone but as we were in close contact with our friends and family for the week before and everyone guessed as I looked a bit ropey and wasn't drinking! It wasn't my plan but it did make things a lot easier x

hoolie1902 · 19/01/2023 13:25

@knackeredmu agree but the thought of anything going wrong is so daunting and I'm quite superstitious inside which is the only reason I'm hesitant.. the hardest thing for sure is not drinking and trying to get away with it! Thank you for your advice! Xx

@hoolie1902
yes getting married at 8 months pregnant! Not ideal but I’m comfortable with it. Currently lulled into a false sense of security as I’ve had hardly any symptoms so far (now 13 weeks), but Im sure I will enjoy the day whatever!

@Natpat81 amazing! 👏 I'm sure you will be gorgeous and hope you have the best day xx
